Recognizing a need to build a blood supply for Ambergris Caye, San Pedro Red Cross
(SPBRC) currently holds 4 blood drives annually. Your blood donation can one day
save a life by helping ensure that blood is available when members of community
require serious medical attention.
The SPBRC would like to inform the community, that the Blood collected at San Pedro Red Cross sponsored Blood Drives, is not sold or transferred to other communities inside or outside the country of Belize. The Blood is held in Trust at Belize Blood Bank on the mainland for utilization by the San Pedro Community. As was the case this weekend, a local resident contacted our Chairman Eiden Salazar, they needed O- blood and he was happy to accommodate their request. If you are a San Pedro resident or visitor in need of blood, simply contact Eiden Salazar at [email protected] or Anthony Anderson, [email protected], and one of them will be happy to assist.
This past blood drive, the goal was 30 pints and because of the community’s’ efforts, 19
pints were collected. SPBRC would like to thank everyone who came out to donate, and helped spread the word.
The San Pedro Branch is starting an email list for any regular donators who want to
make sure they do not miss the opportunity to donate. If you would like to be on the
Blood Drive email list please contact: Shirlee Arnould [email protected] or
Laurie Norton [email protected] with Regular Blood donor as the email title.
If you are an island resident with a rare blood type and want to be on our emergency
contract list you can also send either of us an email.
Donating blood is safe and simple. Central Belize Blood Bank follows strict procedures
to ensure that personal information is confidential and that each donation is safe for the donor and the recipient. All blood gets tested by Central Blood bank for the following things: Malaria, HIV, Both Hepatitis B and C, Chagas and syphilis. The entire process only takes about 20 minutes, but the reward lasts a lifetime.
The San Pedro Red Cross Branch would like to thank the following businesses,
Organizations and individuals for making quarterly blood drives a success, and for their on-going support in creating a safe community..: Tropic Air, Air Strip Taxi Association,
Island Supermarket, Crossfit CSF, Freddie Gonzalez. A special thank you goes to
Washington University Medical School for all their help. In addition to hosing the blood
drive, they provided cutlery and plates, Facebooked during the event, and provided
wonderful volunteers. The next Blood Drive will be September 6, 2014 location to be announced soon.
