Fire Victims Receive Donations from Community
The devastating fire on Sunday, July 6, 2014, in the Boca Del Rio Area gutted a total of seven buildings displacing 16 families with about 88 persons including children and adults. The Community of San Pedro, including the San Pedro Town Council, National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), Belize Red Cross, San Pedro Lions Club and other NGO’s were quick to plan a radiothon and other activities to help out the families in need. The San Pedro Town Council quickly found shelter for two families who didn’t have any relatives to stay with and the San Pedro Lions Club was quick to act and opened the doors to the Lions Den on Monday, July 7, 2014, for people to make food and clothing donations for the fire victims.

There is No Such Thing as Too Much Lobster in Belize
Lobster season is BIG in Belize; big enough that there are three different festivals at three different destinations in the country that celebrate the opening of the season. You would think that the lobster season of Belize is closed for over half of the year for the country to make such a big deal about the opening season; well it is just closed four months. Expect to pay up to $25US for a lobster dish at most restaurants on the island and even close to $40US for a surf & turf dish that includes lobster. So most people take advantage of attending at least one of the lobster festivals in Belize because that’s where one can eat lobster at reduced prices. Restaurants offer special deals and even go out of the way to create amazing lobster dishes that they don’t and will not have on their regular menu for the rest of the season.

When it was retrieved Police say it had a cut wound to the neck measuring about six inches in length and a large cut wound to the abdomen, from the collar bone down to the bottom of the stomach. His family saw him last on Monday evening and they have no idea who would want to kill him. Here is that story. HIPOLITO NOVELO REPORTING “Yesterday afternoon at about 3 o’clock police visited the Dyke’s site on the Faber’s Road Extension. Mastermind Behind Kidnapping Still At Large
For three days residents of Orange Walk gathered in the vicinity of the Magistrate‘s Court trying to get a glimpse of the men who Police believe brutally murdered Ramon Cervantes Senior. On Wednesday they finally got their opportunity as the accused were escorted from the Police Station to the Magistrate’s Court. 22-year-old Noe Gonzalez, 28-year-old Mateo Pott and 19-year-old Angel Antonio Cardenas were read a charge of murder for Cervantes’ death. The men were also read charges of keeping an unlicensed fire arm and unlicensed ammunition. Today the men were back before the court this time they were read a charge for kidnapping. No plea was taken as the offence is indictable. They were remanded until their next court date on August 13. And although Head of Crimes Investigation Branch ACP Russell Blackett told the media on Tuesday that they believe Cervantes’ murder and that of Sonia Abac is connected, no charges have been laid in the Abac murder as yet. Still at large is Manuel Castillo who Police believe is the mastermind behind the operation.

Reports are that Thani may have had a misjudgement in timing and proceeded to cross the road but he never made it to the meridian safely as a 2008 Mitsubishi Galant, driven by 26-year-old, Alexander Mejia came, heading north and knocked him to the pavement. Murder on the Rise: Another Young Man Slain
“Quick Response Team was called out to the corner of Baldwin and Custard Apple Streets on Wednesday afternoon…..there they found the lifeless body of 35-year-old, Dwayne Hilton. Hilton was gunned down at about 6:30 yesterday evening just a few yards away from his house. His sister, Dawn Lambey, a nurse, rushed to the scene just to find out that her brother was killed.” DAWN LAMBEY “They heard the shooting and they said, ‘Mom, a shooting’. I came up and looked down the street. They said it was a possibility of being at the end of the yard, the end of the street. I went and saw somebody come out and said, ‘Help! Help!’ because I am a nurse. He was lying face down, I saw the person, I didn’t even recognize him until they turned him over and it was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s my brother’, you understand me? Because that yard, I did not expect him to be in. He was nothing more than two or five minutes there so there would have never been a chance for me to think he would have been in that yard.”

Mysterious Construction at the Split in Caye Caulker on One BEAUTIFUL DAY in Belize
Yesterday was summer perfection on Ambergris Caye. The high winds have died down, the sun was HOT and bright and if you were not busy sweating (or working), you were in the water. Lots of kids on summer break were. Though I have not been over to the caye yet about this news, here is what the gossip mill is churning up. Officially, this construction is to reinforce the sea wall. Unofficially, some think there is a new owner who plans to build a more “touristy” establishment that will not let villagers in so freely. (This area is really the main public beach in Caye Caulker.)
