Greetings,

I first visited this piece of paradise in 1999 with my wife. Two kids later and we are back. I have convinced her to stay for a month next July and was wondering if it could happen for about $1,000 rental. Also, I am a college professor and would love to donate time to any educational resources here. I also am active in a marine mammal rescue organization in my home state and would love to donate time helping there if possible. I can operate boats (from a kayak to a sport boat) and would love to give back to this place that has given me so many fond memories. Any advice or direction to a previous thread these matters were addressed would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Rob

Check what the stamp in your passport says. Cannot even volunteer while in Belize is the law.

So, how do so many people come here and openly volunteer - like for the schools, dentistry, eyes, etc.?

Rob, have you checked out Wildtracks? They run a great volunteer/intern programme and your work with marine mammals would make you ideal for their manatee rehab programme.

Those who do it legally get approved ahead of time by GOB to volunteer. Those who do it illegally run the chance of being asked to leave the country and it does happen, not often as it should. Maybe the proper response to these questions it to refer people to make arrangements before they come.

I have not, but will certainly do so. We seldom have them that far up the coast in the US, but I have worked with 62-foot whales and more Atlantic Bottlenose than I prefer to count. Thanks so much for the heads up!

And Dabunk, that is exactly why I am here: planning a full year before my next visit so that I may do things properly! Thanks for the advice!
