Hi all,

I've been considering the possibility of moving to Ambergris Caye. From reading forum posts, I get the impression that the majority of people who live there are couples and an even greater number are retired couples. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm 43 and looking for a complete change of lifestyle, primarily to relocate from the poor weather here over the winter. I'm aware that employment would not be possible. I'll be relying on rental income from two properties in the UK initially. I'm also working on an internet project which could bear fruit in around 8 - 12 months time.

My plan was to come over for 3 to 6 months initially, booking 10 days into a hotel whilst looking for a small studio/1 bed apartment to rent within 2 miles of San Pedro or possibly just a room in a house if someone had one free.

A possible idea may be to build a house if I found a suitable plot with services - not necessarily connected - but at least nearby. I'm guessing a local project manager would be vital to help recruit and organise local tradespeople. How long would planning permission take for a typical 2/3 bed house ?

So, are there many expats around my age, on their own from the UK, US, Canada, Germany etc. living on Ambergris Caye who I might be likely to socialise with ?

Many thanks in advance for any insight.

I have been ease dropping on these great pages for several months. Guess I will jump in now because I was gonna ask the same question. But hells bells, it is answered. Thank you Diane and SimonB that was good. lol,
Wanting to learn more, reading reading reading, yep, don't want to be chastised by asking a question that has already been answered ten dozen times.
But the above question is very high on my list. Do not see much written about the social scene. I am fairly young for my age and....well not yet. So I am interested in the over 50 crowd as well.
Seems everyone is hush hush when it comes to the expats over 50 having a tad bit of fun.

Look forward to chatting and eventually meeting (maybe, lol) with you all. Plans are to visit San Pedro and Roatan this fall.

There are lots of folks in the 30's, 40's and 50's that are single that have moved here for a change of scenery and a new lifestyle.

Give it a try.

Tommy - the challenge is not to have "too much" fun. Worry not.

What is a tad bit of fun for some may be suicidal for others. LOL
Yes, there are a lot of ex-pats here from all over the world. Whatever your choice of life style is you can find it here - with one big exception. Single females with light completions (excluding blondes - LOL) will probably not find an available like minded mate. Why do I say that??? Just look around. The really good women I know who came here single and are living here successfully are still single.
Many women who came here with a mate soon found themselves single. I KNOW - I'll get a lot of flack for saying that. I didn't say ALL.
But isn't it that way in a lot of places?
On this (Temptation Island) the party style is pretty 'anything goes.'
On the other hand there are a lot of men and women who are happily single and not into the party life who live very peaceful and contented lives. These are harder to find but are sure worth keeping when you do find them.

I just read that to a formerly single light complexioned (non blonde) female here on the island and her response was "WTF?".

SimonB, Scuba (Harriette) made it a point to express NOT ALL. "Come on Man" and your previous post was such a great one.
I can party or I can chill out or both. I might be full blooded Italian but I don't whore myself out. Well, I better leave it at that. And not a cradle robber. No matter the intentions, I do not feel comfortable on a daily basis going to the spots people go for a toddy, benefit, game, etc and being constantly surrounded my married couples. Sort of like the fish out of water. Treats a lady like a lady. Yea, go ahead, I can take the slack... lol
Island life may change me, I don't expect it too, but who knows. I am a firm believer in Never Say Never.

Would like to read chatter from the single crowd age appropriate.

Thank you Amanda, Diane and Harriette, hell even Simon for taking the initiative to think and get a second opinion.

Time for matchbelize.com?

Yrs ago, there was an ad in Amandala for a local dating service. One of the questions asked of the respondents was to include your police record.
