Hi all,

Newbie to the forum and future expat. I found this forum through the ferry schedule (//ambergriscaye.com/download/ferryschedule.html) and wonder if the schedule is still accurate and up-to-date. I would like to plan a trip to Long Caye on a shoestring budget next year. I have read about different ways to get to Belize City (i.e. fly to Cancun then take the ADO to Belize City) and found this as the most affordable way to get to the islands, if still viable.

If this is a misplaced post or topic, please let me know and I'll be happy to relocate it appropriately.

Are you thinking of the Long Caye at Lighthouse Reef? There's no way you're getting out there from Belize City for $15US. The Long Caye listed above is south of Caye Chapel and to the best of my knowledge there's nothing there worth seeing.

Thanks, Simon - that's good to know! I was referring to the one at Lighthouse Reef...didn't know about the other one. I thought $15 seemed ridiculously low, but it was worth a shot, right?!

An old boat captain once told me in Belize when you don't know the name of a caye you call it Long Caye. If you look at a map this resulted in almost a dozen cayes named Long Caye.

True. There's Long Caye at Lighthouse, Long Caye at Glover's, Long Caye below Caye Chapel, Middle Long Caye, Southern Long Caye, North Long Cocoa Caye, South Long Cocoa Caye and those are just the ones on the map; there are plenty of locally named Long Cayes. There's also quite a few Water Cayes, Colson Cayes and Moho Cayes.

Colson and Moho? Who or what, and therefore, why are so many called Colson and Moho?

No idea. There's also several Rendezvous Cayes.
