Weekly Weather Outlook for Belize
September 8-15, 2014
Summary: A deep and moist easterly airflow will prevail over the NW Caribbean during this working week. This is typical of September climatology, after the below normal rainfall conditions that prevailed across the country during the first half of the 2014 rainy season (June through August, 2014), which impacted the main corn crop that was planted later than normal. Model forecast (NOAA-GFS) is resolving an active tropical wave moving over Belize during Wednesday (see NHC 72-hr forecast map). This feature will be coupled with an upper level, diffluent ridge circulation, favorable for further widespread outbreaks of thunderstorms, especially inland over the Orange Walk, Cayo and Toledo districts.

From Belmopan... 09:15 BZT

Rain showers continuing in any part of Belize this morning. . . . Note how the direction of rain movement is different across the country. Indicating a Low pressure centre near us, which is squeezing the water out of the clouds.

As you can see, the streaming of wet air from Mexico over Belize continues, causing rain showers anywhere... .This is being aided by that Low pressure centre over the west tip of Cuba.. . . . So I expect to see isolated showers continuing over most of Belize for much of the day, getting less of them as the day warms up. . . . We will have some sun patches, but mainly cloud, probably more sun later in the day.

Note how the rain and therefore low level air is moving from the Caribbean from the East as usual ( Blue Arrow ), but the high cloud bringing the wet air is coming from the NW ( White arrows )

That Thunder & Lightning being caused by two different air masses moving over each other.

One lightning near us, either cut our power for a fraction of a second. .. .Or caused a spike, which caused all the Spike protection I have fitted on all Fridges, TV's and my Computer, to all shut OFF. . . They reconnected automatically 4 minutes later.

But that was clearly a front that went over Belize, still a fair amount of rain behind it, but I think the worst is now over.

Forecast calls for rain

It is a rainy start to the new week as moist and unstable conditions persist over our area.

The general forecast for Belize and her coastal waters is for cloudy skies with sunny breaks today.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy. Morning showers and thunderstorms in the morning will spread to most areas during the course of today.

Winds over the open sea and along the coast will be easterly at ten to twenty knots, with higher gusts. The sea state will be moderate, becoming rough at times.

A small craft caution for rough seas has been issued by the Belize Weather Bureau.

High temperatures tonight will be around eighty seven degrees Fahrenheit along the coast; ninety two degrees Fahrenheit inland and a comfortable seventy nine degrees Fahrenheit up in the hill.

The tides: there will be a high tide at 2:04 pm. A low will occur at 7:43 pm. The sun will set at 5:56 pm.

The extended forecast valid through to Tuesday is for cloudy spells with a few showers and thunderstorms over most areas of the country.

And that is a look at the weather, with information provided by forecaster Ronald Gordon at the Belize Weather Bureau.
