Caye Caulker Roman Catholic Primary School (CCRC) now boasts four new classrooms thanks to an initiative by the 2010-2013 Caye Caulker Village Council and support from the islandís community. After more than a year and half under construction, the building was finally inaugurated during a ceremony held on Thursday, October 30th. Officially cutting the ribbon and handing over the building to school officials was former Village Chairman, Alberto Villanueva and Area Representative Honorable Manuel Heredia Jr.
According to Villanueva, Caye Caulker keeps growing and there is overcrowding at the islandís only primary school. During his time in office he saw the need to expand the school to create more space for students. The much needed classrooms will accommodate over a hundred students and will provide students with a comfortable learning environment. ďThe building was done because we saw a basic need in our community. The schoolís administration had been seeking assistance from the Government of Belize for many years and nothing was achieved. So we took it upon ourselves to spearhead the project and with the help of the community we now can boast four new classrooms. This shows that as a community we can do so much more than if we try to do something alone,Ē said Villanueva.
