Do any of you have Hurricane shutters on your windows. Since I was broken into last week we are considering this. Are they effective (for security) and do you have any recommendations. I am getting one quote already.

FC is just down the road from us Tastes of Thailand on Sea Grape Drive San Pedro. We have had them a year now and NO problem.

The issue is that these hurricane shutters work by being closed. Do you want all your shutters closed when you have guests? Thefts happen when there is something to steal - guests are the attraction.
One idea - hurricane windows. If the window is closed and locked, you can't break in the glass.
Alternatives - decorative bars on windows.
Also possible for windows that don't need to be glass - use the metal louvres? They can't be disassembled easily, they let in breeeze ....... they can be purchased in white and when tipped open they reflect a nice amount of light into the room.

Just a point about window bars they can be popped out with a piece of 2x4. I know because that is how they came through our window on the balcony. I have now bolted 2x4 to the wall around the back window bars.
