Hello, A 24'wooden canoe washed up by our pier in San Pedro yesterdat. Who do I contact for preservation information? And/or who might know its age or what kind of wood it is? Could be it belongs in a museum. thank you
Probably lost in Rio Dulce and washed out to sea is my guess. See the responses to your original post yesterday for preservation tips. I would suggest keeping out of the sun as it might dry out and crack.
We've recently been using something called rot terminator on older wood that has been in a lot of weather, and it is effective. Castilos can get if for you. It was recommended to us by a person who used it in the restoration of old wooden homes.
Thanks All, Norman Eiley has promised to come by to take a look. It's being moved into the shade and we'll fill it again with water. I'll start on the Belize City contacts - museums, NICH, archeology dept - after the holidays. Happy New Year julie
