I hereby support the right of Mexicans and their visitors to be cool and artsy and to eat locally caught fish, in combo with locally grown vegetables, prepared and served by local people, paid for in pesos; whilst sitting on a patio overlooking the Mexican coastline.
I further support Jim in his tongue in cheek comment on truly ridiculous posts made by somebody who needs both help and a sense of humor.
And I further state in all truthfulness, that I had tacos for lunch on the same day that I had fish for dinner.

The big question is whether I am allowed to have yoghurt with my papaya for breakfast, or butter on my toast.

This post is intended to lighten the mood and inject a little sanity to a hijack of a thread on travel to a nearby destination.

Diane - you are so funny!
Last night I cooked an ugly carrot sliced in rounds, the last of a huge head of cauliflower including the stalk and a potato that was not painted pink. All this in one pot of water with some red sea salt. After draining I added pink Himalayan sea salt that I grind myself and very course ground black pepper and a chunk of real butter. What a feast - the last half cup went to Tonto my pot licker who ate every last bit and licked the pan clean!
A few hours later I grilled a couple of very small lobster tails.
What a great life.
I believe I have been Belized.

As long as the butter is Wood Dunn in the tin. BTW, tuna is locally caught.

I just came back from a trip to Chetumal. I didn't have any problems, but being aware of the warning, I made a note of the taxi number, which is posted on the car door before getting in. Also, I made sure that the taxi driver got out of the vehicle to remove my bags. Most of the cases I heard about were from people who had paid the driver, gotten out, and went to get their bags form a back seat and the driver took off. Also, I have heard about drivers taking people to remote locations and robbing them. I am a little bit familiar with Chetumal so I kept my eyes open to make sure they were staying on the appropriate route. All in all, being aware, not flashing cash, not looking affluent. I also did another "trick" that I have used several times in the past. I would have a fake phone conversation, and say the cab number IN SPANISH to make the driver think I was in communication with someone, who knew my whereabouts. It didn't matter that I couldn't get a signal, they didn't know that.
