hoping to move to belize by this summer. Looking to by a plot inland and hopefully do some farming, just enough to make a living. Is this something that seems possible. Suggested crops to sell in town? If not, how hard is it to find work as an American?

There is definitely an interest in organicaly grown fruits and vegetables and herbs right here on Caye Caulker. Nothing grown here, so it all must be brought from the mainland. There are 2 restaurants that specialize in organic foods and coffee - Cocoplum Gardens & Cindy's Cafe. I've heard their complaints about how difficult it is to get organic produce, and that most of the Mennonites use copious amounts of herbacides and pestacides. Its not all that difficult starting and doing business here in Belize as long as you are not competing with the locals for marketshare. Doing business in Belize is all about good will, and if you are supplying a good or service that they are not, all the better for you, and if you are employing Belizean labour, even better. Several businesses I would not get into are the bar business, restaurant, convenience store or dive shop operations. Lots of problems and competition there. Take your time, find out who's who, and what's what.

Chloe...yes, have hoe will travel. I've been following the adventures here for about 6 months and will make my 1st trip to AC 3/11. Spring break you know and I would not choose SPI.

Pilgrim, can't imagine why you would choose SP over SPI.....lol....well I will be doing springbreak this year on SPI, as day breakers with my grandkids. They just called today, bringing their two dogs, and their pet mouse....true pet mouse, on 3/9.
I am blessed, how many kids take gramma on springbreak with them?

You might want to talk to Vicky and Ray the owners of the Pook's Hill Jungle Lodge in the Cave Branch area. I think they started out with farming in Belize before they built their wonderful Jungle Lodge. They are very nice people with lots of knowledge and have been many years in Belize. We enjoyed talking to them alot and made our stay at Pooks Hill special last June.
