Can anyone comment on the gasoline shortage on the island?

What's the status of availability? Thank you.......

Not noticeable here as far as I know. I filled up a few days ago and it looked like business as usual. Haven't read or heard of a single problem on the Island.

I asked the other day, and indeed out here it is business as usual. The shortage is being felt on mainland mostly and is diesel and premium, not regular gas. The water taxis from BC use diesel but seem to have their own reserves, so they are running as usual. Texaco said they were told to sell only 25 gallons of diesel per day to customers but they don't feel they need to do that. Fuel ship should arrive in Belize by end of this week.

We were advised when we filled on Saturday that they were not restricting the sale of diesel to regular customers but they are rationing to non-local vessels.

Lighten up and play nice, please?

This makes sense to me. Apparently we have enough fuel for island vessels and trucks, but will not be shipping containers of fuel off to mainland so that some body can resell and gouge? That seems like the only reason a boat would come all the way over here from someplace else.
The rationing limit was 25 gallons per day. Seems reasonable.

Our supply dented by trucks filling up in Corozal before crossing into MX, as per the fuel czar. Similar to rice, sugar, flour and other staples when prices fluctuate between countries.

Sorry Diane. I guess I was not clear in my post..or maybe just a bit crass.

I would expect the 2 fuel stops on the island to police themselves. They KNOW who their customers are, and what/how much is needed to keep the island running. ( Or they would sure find out quickly if they ran out! )

I just hate the rationing mandate, when there most likely is no need.
But I guess we shall see.

My apologize Diane.

Thanks D C.

The rationing was nationwide and meant to avoid hoarding. I was on the mainland last weekend and the diesel shortage was indeed affecting daily life.

Just for clarity..... there are three gas stations on the island. Texaco in front on dock. Texaco in back lagoon for boats and land vehicles. Texaco south for land vehicles.

Fuel boat arrived in Belize. Whew.
