Alien Abduction! before anyone comments, let me say he was not harmed and now swims happily with his other friends in the Saragossa. We kept him less than 5 minutes.
Histrio histrio- the only species in its genus. It lives among Sargassum seaweed.
When your first name is the same as your last name in scientific naming it means you are the one and only.
I've been after this shot since the Sargasso floated in this year. Here he is The sargassum fish. How many million years do you think they lived in the sargassum to develop this one of a kind camouflage.

Now that's a "WOW"

A little known fact... Women who are overweight tend to live longer than men who mention it...

Are they rare? What is the background on this shot? Good one!

That is sooo awesome!! So their habitat is the floating masses. What happens to them when the sargassum collects on the beach or at waters edge? At Caribbean Villas the have a giant "rake" that gathers it from the water. Are these little guys being destroyed? What an amazing camouflage.

Great shot. Thank you for sharing and for the lesson!!

I snorkeled around the sea weed yesterday and didn't spot any of the fish but I have seen them in the past. There are all manner of sea life in the seaweed.

There has been literally tons of the weed building up along the whole coastline. All of the resorts are struggling with trying to keep the beaches clear of the seaweed as the odor of the decaying weed is toxic.

Yes the Saragossa is food and shelter for an amazing variety of sea life including little turtles but this is true when it's floating in the sea and trapped behind our afore reef isn't a happy place for any involved.
Scuba Lady the photo posts are usually just minutes old. This is a rare fish and we let him go right away as to not harm him. You see him here in a drinking glass.
