Hello all. This is my first time writing to the forum members. My question is in regard to the requirement for past criminal records to get a Qualified Retired Person Visa. Specifically, what kind of criminal record disqualifies a person? I meet the age and income requirements, however I do have a fairly lengthy misdemeanor driving record of DWI's and DWS. I have NO felonies, thefts, drugs or violent crimes. Does anyone know just how clean of record one needs to obtain a residency Visa? I would like to eventually buy a home on Ambergris Caye, but obviously I would need a Visa first.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I'm ready to slow down and relax.....
Thank You!!

Hummmm, When the Belize Government asked me for a 'Criminal Record' I was confused but then discovered they produce a record of your not having committed a crime while in Belize. This might be what your referring to.Residency and Citizenship require this kind of record. I went to the Belize Police station and asked for a Criminal Record. They gave me a form to fill out and I gave them 2 photographs of myself and $12. dollars BZ after a few weeks I went back and the handed me my Criminal Record, it was a sheet of paper with my photograph on it that stated I had no criminal record, but the reference was that I had not committed a crime for the 6 months I had been in Belize. I have to do this every two years to keep current my Tour Guide Licences, as do all tour guides.

The good thing is that you can still buy a home on Ambergris Caye and visit often smile

Thank you for the reply. I think for the QRP, they are asking for a criminal history from back in the states before issuing a QRP visa. Sounds like the best bet is to come and stay as a tourist for a while, then apply for the QRP after a few months.
Thanks again.

I think QRP, residency and nationality are a bit different as they go through an Interpol check. I've been waiting over 10 weeks for my record for my nationality application.

I came in on the QRP program 13 years ago. Keep in mind that they change requirements often. I don't understand what you mean about Visa??
You can come here with a passport. Unless you are on the 'no-fly list" I can't imagine your driving record being a problem. Hopefully you have solved your drinking problem. If you haven't you will fit right in here. Ha ha ha
Of course you may not live long.

Harriette,

Would you mind if I ask you a few questions re: QRP?

Thanks in advance!

My wife and I have been registered on the QRP for more than 10 years and it works just fine as we find it easy to renew each year.

Yes they are asking about your criminal record back home before they will allow you to join. We had to get a document from our local police office in the UK. Suggest you get in touch with Roschel Godfrey ( [email protected])who runs the QRP programme, to ask about your particular situation.
