Shame on Fox for linking a "true" story.. Seems like spitting and not splitting. Thanks for your research.

As a side note, the reference to Isla Mujeres could very well have been refering to mainland Isla Mujeres, not the island itself.
I'm sure mainland Isla is as inundated with sargassum as anywhere else along the coast.

Sooo, I guess the answer is that it is not getting any better.

I am planning a trip to Ambergris Caye this December. Some locals have mentioned that it should die down in November. I wonder if that is true.

We need a good hurricane in the Caribbean Basin. High winds, waves and tons of rain, Voila' no Sargasso. It's the time of year (September) that we get that wish.

Heidi ..... There really is no good way of predicting what will happen with the saragasso. We don't have a historical record from which to draw conclusions.
Regardless of the seaweed, life is good on the island. Relax and come back for some fun.

This is a chart that seems to be very accurate as to when we get the most turbulence. September 10th is the peak. I'm looking forward to a big flush sometime in the next three weeks.
Diane is correct it hasn't had an effect on activities like snorkel, fishing and diving. We've never been known for beaches anyway.

Well, given time, the bad stuff will hit.
I notice today that sargasso has hit Playa Norte on the island of Isla Mujeres.
I guess it was inevitable.
