we are planning a trip to belize for end of april, beginning of may.
my wife wants to be "pampered" on this trip, so upscale hotels/lodges are the choice.

we would like to spend 3-4 days in the jungle and 7-8 days on AC.
the hotels we are considering are:
jungle- chan chich
AC- victoria house, mata chica

we are consider staying at 2 different hotels on AC to experience the south and north styles of the island.

my questions are:
1. any other "upscale" hotels/lodges to consider ?
2. how far of a walk is victoria house from town ?
3. if i am staying north of the cut, can i rent a golf cart and bring it across with me, or do i have to park it on the south side of the cut and walk the rest of the way ? what do you suggest.
4. are there any wild dolphin encounter trips available ?
5. butterfly farms- is this a worthwhile trip ? are there many adult butterflies to see or is it mostly viewing of the cacoon ?

thank you in advance for you help

Hi,

For North od Town I would suggest Mata Chica. They a have a spa that can provide just the pampering that you want. They also offer some great trips through us, like the Manatee Snorkel Excursion, the Lamanai Jungle River Adventure or the tour of the Altun Ha Mayan Ruins. While staying there do not rent a Golf Cart. Then for Sout of Town Victoria House would be good. While staying there you could rent the golf Cart and get around town. Hope you find what you are looking for.

On the butterfly farms, there are six in Belize. The best is probably Green Hills at Mile 8 of the Pine Ridge Road in Cayo, across from M.E.T. Yes, you can see hundreds of adult butterflies in a screened room.

Chan Chich is great, but there are other upscale lodges including Chaa Creek, Ek 'Tun and Blancaneaux.

For your mainland stay also consider Five Sisters Lodge. In my opinion, the most beautiful jungle views in Belize looking out from the honeymoon cabin, the waterfalls and pools are delightful and the food fantastic.
Half the price of Blancaneaux and every bit as nice, though not as fancy. It is locally owned and powered by hydroelectric from the waterfalls.

We just returned from AC last week. I know that you are looking at the Mata Chica, but PLEASE consider the Portofino. We stayed there in their honeymoon suite for 7 days. It is just a little north of Mata Chica, but it is wonderful there. They treat you like royalty and the accomodations are quite nice. I don't believe that you can take a golf cart to the Mata Chica or the Portofino, but their boat goes into town a few times a day, so you are not stuck there. The restaurant is good, and if you want to go snorkeling or whatever, they will make arrangements to have the tour operator pick you up from their dock. We felt so pampered at the Portofino, and would highly recommend it!!!!
