I visited Nabitunich in '99 (?) and left after one night. Horrible & dangerous elctrical/water conditions aside, the sound of multiple people running, shouting and numerous rifle fire right outside my window ( I kid you not.....5' or less) was enough to encourage this boy to move on. About an hour or so after the shots rang out, the police arrived. I walked out onto the porch and was met immediately by 3 officers brandishing guns and was pointedly told to go back inside and stay there. Cattle rustlers were hiding. At dawn, and no police presence, I went outside and immediately saw the owner. he told me it was common for Guat cattle rustlers to jump the border and steal cattle, thus the actions by his staff.
It was not my most scariest moment with firearms, but close!
