On Ambergris Caye this morning the wind and waves continue. The expected high is 87 and the day is sunny.
The reef has breaks in it that the divemasters call cuts. They act as portals to our dive sites. When the cut is open there is a blue gap in the white crests of the waves. When the waves are so intense that they break all the way across the blue, divemasters say The cut is closed.

From Belmopan...

A rerun of the last two days. The Caribbean winds coming from the SE, Honduras sheltering us from their clouds. The high level SW Pacific having little effect on Belize. But there is more cool air coming nearer to Belize from North American and the north Pacific, perhaps by tomorrow we might be seeing some effect from that, no rain on the radar.

Looks like today will be sunny and dry, with some white puffy clouds developing later today, no rain.

Temperatures in Belmopan:
Today is probably going to be Similar, to yesterday : Tue, max 31°C 88°F Last night 21 min °C 70°F ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler )

A good example of why forecasts for Belize seem irrelevant to Ambergris Caye. Yes it's true Honduras sheltering Belize from the 18 kt winds we're suffering from the SE. but notice on www.windyty.com that Ambergris Caye isn't in that shelter.

High Winds Cause Beach Erosion

The cold fronts brought unseasonably cold weather to Belize in January, when most people expect them in December, if any! And now as February rolls in, strong and gusty winds are prevailing, weather condition that is normally expected in March during Easter. A walk along the beach this week saw evidence of substantial beach erosion being cause by the gusty winds and above normal wave action. Water is creeping up the beach area removing sand and threatening some coconut trees that are holding on strong to the soil.

It's an issue that needs to be addressed by all islanders as we need to look into ways of protecting our beach from erosion, keeping mangroves in place, the construction of less piers and the preservation of sea grass beds.
