For many years, every cellphone I have ever had or any cellphone for guest has a small note on the back.. " REWARD IF FOUND... etc" It's SO easy to do.

A little known fact... Women who are overweight tend to live longer than men who mention it...

Our guest lost her cellphone along the road last week on the day she arrived. I told her not to give up hope as there are honest people in the world. Within 24 hours she got the phone back from a San Pedrana who didn't want a reward. She said she wanted to set a good example to her children.

I've found and returned at least 4 phones on Caye Caulker.

Now I'm having a reverse problem. Some renters lost a phone and sent a text to the phone saying they could return it to a property management company for a reward. They didn't tell the company in advance that they were going to do it, and they didn't leave behind reward money when they left. Someone turned in the phone and the people wont respond to requests for giving the reward or returning the phone. Now the women who manage the rentals are being accused of keeping the reward for themselves. A real mess!

There are many honest San Pedranos as evident by our experience today. At first light this morning, we were out looking for the phone again and passed a gentleman we see everyday heading south for his workday. Upon asking if he found a cellphone, he stated that he had and pulled it out of his backpack and happily handed it back. No request for money. He was subsequently given a small token of our appreciation which turned out to be a full days salary! Good karma for all involved.

Thank you for sharing that experience. People are far more inclined to report bad experiences than good ones and yet I suspect the good far outweigh the bad.
