On Ambergris Caye this morning the sea is flat calm and wind nil. The expected high is 91 and looks to be a hot day ahead.

From Belmopan...

That INVEST 99L brought another wave of cloud towards Honduras last night, but only resulting a small amount of rain showers. Last night, and continuing this morning, there is a strong SW surface Tiger wind over Belize. I can't, this morning, see any indications of an easterly Caribbean wind on any Satellite images, at least at present, but it will pick up by this afternoon, replacing the SW Tiger wind as the sun gets hotter. The high cloud from the Honduras swell-ups is circulating to the E then SW away, but the main high cloud in the area is going to the west. There is very little high cloud over Belize. I have been able to see a few white puffy clouds showing the Caribbean easterly wind is there above the surface tiger wind.

Looks like today is going to be mainly sunny with white clouds building this morning, only a slight chance of the odd rain shower, mainly in the south.

There are 3 identified storms, HURRICANE GASTON in the NE of this picture, is now Cat.2 and they expect it to turn to the NE and Europe. TD EIGHT they also expect to turn NE soon, but will have some impact on the US east coast. Now INVEST 99L is still going towards southern Florida and they also expect that to turn NE and hit central Florida later. But there is a 4th rotating mass of cloud, this has formed from much outpouring from H Gaston, but is rotating on its own. It is not clear if this could actually form into another storm.

Temperatures in Belmopan:
Today is probably going to be similar, to yesterday : Sat, max. 34°C 94°F Last night min. 27°C 80°F ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler )

from my friend in Belmopan....

The "Tiger wind" is a surface wind we can feel, that comes of the Mountains, from the SW usually starting in the late evening and usually stopped by early morning as the Caribbean wind takes over.

It is, as I say, a surface wind and there can easily be Caribbean or other winds at just a 1000 feet or higher above it in a different direction.

It used to be a common expression amongst Belize Town fishermen 50 years ago, but I have not found anyone who remembers that expression, so I have been rekindling it.
