Wolfe’s Woofer: Who Changes The Child?
“What are you so upset about?” Sherry asked. “It’s Mario,” I told her. “He was supposed to be here at eight o’clock to help me clean up the bodega.” “Since it’s already nine-thirty I would say he is not coming over today.” “Oh, yes he is. I’m going to his house to get him.” When Lupe answered the door I said, “Ms. Lupe, where is Mario? He was supposed to work with me today.” “I don’t think he will work with you today,” Lupe said. “When he wakes up his head will be hurting a lot.” “He’s going to have a hangover?” I asked.

Doctor Love: Discouraged and Doubtful
Dear Doctor Love, I have been dating a woman for ten months and I am really hooked. I take her out to dinner and dancing all and I buy her gifts for every occasion. I have bought her jewelry. We have gone to Hawaii and the Virgin Islands together and stayed in the same hotel room but we have never had sex. She took me out one time to dinner at Christmas and that is it. I gave her three thousand dollars towards a wedding ring but there is no sign of one yet. I am a widower. She is the first woman I have been with in thirty years. When I tell her how much I love her and want to marry her she says I am rushing her. Am I just being used? Should I just try to get the money back for the ring and move on? I am over fifty and I am too old to be out there looking for someone new. What can I do? /s/ Discouraged

Letter: Belize Progressive Party supports the teachers, unequivocally
Dear Sir: Amid these perilous times, in which each passing day it becomes increasingly more clear that our nation is in the grips of a tyrannical and despotic administration, the Belize Progressive Party (BPP) wishes to express its unequivocal support for the BNTU, as it institutes industrial action. Our solidarity with the teachers is grounded in the BPP’s core principle of: fostering, adhering to and championing good governance practices and principles. Given the reality that corruption in Belize is more the rule than the exception, the BPP is heartened to know the BNTU shall demonstrate its resolve toward standing for what is right.

Senate Select Committee formed; BCCI reacts to Senate proceedings
The Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), supported a motion in Friday’s Special Sitting of the Senate which called for full and equal representation on the Senate Inquiry of all five parties now represented within the Senate. The motion was never presented, however, since the churches’ representative, Senator Ashley Rocke presented another motion, which had the support of the Government’s senators. Senator Rocke’s motion was for a 2:1:3 make-up. In a press release issued after the sitting, BCCI said that the motion contained provisions within its terms of reference, designed to thoroughly investigate the contents of the Auditor General’s Special Audit into the Immigration Department. That investigation would identify deficiencies and prevent corruption. PUP Senator Eamon Courtenay tried to get his motion passed to excuse Godwin Hulse, who is also the Minister of Police and Immigration, from the proceedings.

This Week Ahead: Seven Things
This coming week is a surprisingly busy one – the first week of October, the midst of the slow season. Who would have guessed? So, in an attempt to get just a step ahead of my arch-enemy procrastination, here is a list of seven things I plan to do this week. A week that includes working with BelizeKids.org on our new Vision Center… helping to get ready for the very first guests at Cayo Frances Farm & Fly (owned by my boyfriend Jeff) and…speaking of my boyfriend…MOVING! I am moving from “town” – or 1.5 miles south of the town center – to North Ambergris Caye. 7 miles north to be exact. Just north of Xtan Ha Resort. Cha-cha-cha-changes. So here are few things I NEED to get done and a few I want to get done this very first week in October.
