At 5:30 a.m., many of the participants starting gathering at the Boca del Rio Park, which was the meeting point. Before the walk/run started, Councilor Hector “Tito” Alamilla gave a brief speech where he expressed his gratitude to all those that participated in the walk/run and shared with everyone the significance of the event, which is to spread awareness of breast cancer and that early detection saves lives. After the brief speech, over 120 participants walked over to the Sir Barry Bowen Bridge and awaited the countdown to begin. 3-2-1 and they were off! Participants were to walk/run from the Sir Barry Bowen Bridge all the way to Belizean Shores (end of paved road) and back to the bridge which was approximately six (6) miles in total.
At the end of the walk/run, the participants were greeted by the San Pedro Cancer Society, who had their booth with refreshments and snacks to celebrate their accomplishment.
Prior to the event, the San Pedro Town Council offered a Pink Package for $50, which included a t-shirt, water bottle, cap and registration to the event. Participants who didn’t purchase the package but wanted to participate were asked to register with a fee of $10. All proceeds of this event were donated to the San Pedro Cancer Society.
The San Pedro Town Council is extremely proud of the San Pedro community for coming out and supporting this event. We are overwhelmed by the amount of participation and cooperation we received from everyone and we hope we can make it bigger next year. Thank you all for participating!
