Hey all, first let me thank you for the advice on moving with my dog. He feels a lot better knowing he'll be amongst friends...

That said, I'm coming down in December for a week (16-23) to get the lay of the land and see if it's for me (and the mutt, though he'll be staying with friends back home). My questions to you all are what are things I should be doing and who should I be talking to?

My realistic timetable for a move is late summer 2017. I'll probably be going the QRP route, so employment is not an issue. I just want to lay the groundwork for a place to stay (Ambergris or Caulker), and want to know what I should be doing as advance work and get a sense of what I'm getting into. I'm a 46 year old slightly single guy, kinda nerdy but an extrovert who loves to kayak, if that helps...

Looking forward to running into you all while I'm there, and thanks again. Cheers!

AC and CC kayaking will likely get old after awhile, maybe look at the mainland

Awwww katzgar, I've had my Kayak here on Ambergris Caye for 5 years.....I take it out often and always enjoy it......Sometimes I'll go to a nearby sandbar and snorkel or read....Other times I drag my dive gear with me and explore and sometimes I just go bar hopping in it....I'm also told the mangroves and lagoon are fun, however I have not been exploring back there.....From day to day on the reef side I'll see Turtles, Dolphins, Rays lots of other beautiful creatures and it's never the same...... I suppose it's depends on your Kayak goals.....For me Kayaking here is great..... smile

Thats cool Judy and there is certainly great kayaking on AC. Living on the mainland allows easier access to river kayaking/fishing and mainland roads allow access to many areas of the country.

Oh, now I understand....Sure you have the waterways and rivers throughout the mainland.... That would also be fun....

on a caye you either go left or right, after sometime other options seem desirable.

Mangrove Kayaking is fascinating and Ambergris Caye has a labyrinth of lagoons and channels to be explored that seem never ending... orchids, rare birds, crocodiles, anteaters, raccoons

Kat - what's your problem? This happens to be a board about the Cayes, mostly Ambergris. You offered and option - now drop it.

my comments must be getting in the way of your PM. There are plenty of websites you can list your property on. The OPer can do as he wishes with the info, no need for you to try to take over the thread.
