The Coast Guard has found 65.3 pounds of drugs at Rocky Point. It has been labeled found property since no one was in the area.

I would love to read a follow up story on where these drugs go from here.
If the drop is successful the drugs continue on their journey and Belize is not
effected. Now the drugs have a large chance of getting into the Belize environment and affecting the population. Channel 7 should report on where these drugs are a week from now.

as explained to me by a 70 year old Belizean ......
He said that Belize has been a transshipment place for a very long time. Fishermen were paid in cash for delivering fuel and doing other such services. He said that during this period there wasn't any noticeable spillover "trouble" from the trade. Somewhere along the line, according to my friend, the big dealers began to pay their local helpers "in kind" .... Giving them drugs instead of cash. The local individuals then needed to sell the drugs to get money. The effect was that a customer base was created and continues to grow on the ground, here in our communities.
Interesting theory.

Drugs on their journey thru Belize has effected Belize and its population, some directly. If the money from drugs traveling thru Belize was ever added to the GNP of Belize, Belize would have little need to borrow money.

I read another article about this and it seems this was marijuana and if you read this again it only say 'drugs' I made the mistake of assuming it was cocaine. I don't think the cartel exports pot, especially since it grows so well here. This may have been something else entirely.

I would be better if the police distributed it to places like San Pedrito and San Mateo. Those places could use a little mellowing.
