This is just a heads up that the San Pedro Red Cross will be on Caye Caulker on Saturday, March 4 to do a blood donation drive. They are looking for volunteers to help out that day and leading up to prepare for the day. If you are interested in volunteering, please send me a private message.

Please also consider donating blood that day too. It could save a life and if you donate today it is credited to your name and makes you or a loved one eligible for blood in the future in the event you need it.

BELIZE RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE!

Hey guys, the last time I announced this event people had a lot of great questions which I couldn't answer but I can now.

CC will be having a blood donation drive on Saturday 4 March from 9AM - 3PM. Donating blood is crucial and life saving for people who are sick or have injuries. Any of us could need blood at any time. If you donate blood you or a loved one are eligible to get blood in the future. Please, please come out and support the health of the community and yourselves!

You can donate blood unless one or more of the following applies to you:

- If you had surgery in the last 6 months
- If you are under 18 years old or over 65
- If you have taken any medications (even aspirin) or drank alcohol in the 24 hours before donating (sorry Jam goers!)
- If you have donated blood within 90 days before 4 March
- If you are sick with any kind of cold or flu
- If you are breast feeding, pregnant or have given birth in the last year
- If you are a woman who is menstruating
- If you have gotten a tattoo in the past year
- If you have or have ever had dengue, malaria, yellow fever or HIV. It's important to be RESTED, have EATEN a healthy meal and to be hydrated - DRINK non-alcoholic and non-caffeinated beverages - before coming in to donate (think RED!)

You won't believe it! The first ever blood drive held in Caye Caulker via The Belize Red Cross San Pedro Branch had a successful, huge turn out! Thanks to everyone who came out and showed their support!

Caye Caulker had its first blood drive in recent memory today. I'd be interested in knowing, from old timers, if there has ever been one here before. The Belize Red Cross - San Pedro and Belize Red Cross along with Belize Blood Services came out and set up at the Caye Caulker Health Center. Twenty one people donated blood and quite a few more volunteered but were unable to give for one reason or another. Ocean Academy kids also did a Dollar Drive and collected over $1,000 to support Red Cross blood collection and training. From overseas, Alan Clegg made a BZ $100 donation to help fund the drive. San Pedro averages 20 pints at their drives so Caye Caulker really turned up big for this!! Between the businesses that donated rooms and food, the people who threw change in our jars and the people who gave or tried to give blood, Caye Caulker seriously STEPPED UP today!
