Suggest you get a bicycle when you arrive. It should be sufficient for getting to and from school. After you get settled you can decide if you need something else, and if so can go through the licensing and permit process.

Hello Future Doctor....The island is small enough that cars are cumbersome and not necessary for daily transportation....Taxis are handy and easy to acquire within 10 to 20 minutes of requesting them....However, our experience when hosting the medical students is that most of them walk. Housing is typically nearby the University and town is a nice Beach Walk from there. Some students do get bikes, however I've learned they do this for exercise or access to more remote areas of the island....As Diane stated once you get settled you can decide. Good Luck and rest assured your fellow students will assist with carpooling or taxi sharing for events around the island..... smile
