From Belmopan...

Strange weather. The Caribbean winds had been diverted up going northwards and a light SW wind coming in yesterday morning, yet the cloud we could see by afternoon was coming down from the north. The cold front over the Gulf, suddenly reappeared according to NOAA, which produced a very sharp heavy line of rain coming towards north west Belize by late last night.

This morning, there is a little rain going in the same direction, now out at sea off PG but I did not record any significant rain in Belmopan over night. And if that was a cold front, yet the night time temperatures were the warmest of the year. The high level winds are fast and predominating with a line of high level cloud shooting over Belize approaching Cuba, yet the is a slight surface wind from the SE. All very, very strange.

Reminds me of an old story : [ One fine day in the middle of the night, two dead men got up to fight, back to back they faced each other, drew their swords and shot each other. ]

Goodness knows how today will turn out. For some reason, I am not expecting much rain, I suspect some sunshine may come through this present overhead pea-soup later today.

Temperatures in Belmopan:
( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler ) Wed max. 31°C 87°F Last night min. 23°C 74°F

Great story and analysis. It sure is strange weather indeed. Sometimes we can only report it as it is happening or after the fact. I wonder if it will ever be an exact science. I do kind of enjoy that some things can still surprise us.

Actually good weather for planting and transplanting. My Basil, Thyme and Oregano are loving it. Will not have anything ready for this weeks Farmer's Market though.

More from Belmopan...

A very confused picture. Belize has this upper pea-soup cloud coming down from the N by W. . . . The high level is patchy heavy cloud from the WSW. The Caribbean easterly is starting to nudge in a little.

Further north, the low cloud is pushing the northerly cold air back up northwards, with high level SW clouds making it hard to see what is going on.
