We do not want to mislead anyone reading our previous message. We had a wonderful time and will try to be more specific regarding the wind issues. The locals regard March as the heavy wind period with them dying in April. There are morning trips, afternoon trips and all day trips scheduled each day. Of the five days we were there only one day and one morning was cancelled. Its important to note that this was our first ocean diving experience with two kids (13 & 15) and it was important for us to have that first experience be a good/successful one. As far as clarity of the water for photography, I don't believe even under our conditions that anyone would be disappointed. On our video we have footage of featherdusters and Christmas Tree Coral that is spectacular. Wider scope and longer range videos and pictures were beyond our expectations. I can't say enough about Patrick at Belize Underwater Video. As an unexperienced underwater photographer ( Sea and Sea MX-5 camera) we were very pleased with the results. As far as following a guide we need to clarify our diving experience. We dove at Hol Chan (which is one of the few channel cuts through the reef). We did not dive outside of the reef, but Patrick at Belize Underwater Video dove with a group at the Blue Hole the next day and had footage at 130ft. in depth with still enough clarity for great pictures. We saw that video when we went to pick up ours. If concerned about the divemasters agenda, you may consider chartering your own boat trip and divemaster. We did this to ensure a good first dive with our children and were very satisfied!! We found the price for such a charter to be more than reasonable. As a further note, there were people from Banyan Bay that dived and travelled outside the reef, they were just much more experienced than we were. Not meaning to say that it can't be done. Hope this helps. The people travelling in April, don't worry. All guides and resorts will bend over backwards to help you put together good trips. I think we were extra cautious because of the kids. We are very glad we went.
