TARPON (Sabalo): Lots of Tarpon around this week even though the winds made it challenging. Michael T. got it done on his way to a grand slam. Dick managed to stick four in one day but unfortunately none to the boat. Nice to know there hungry!

FISHING REPORT

Weeks of Mar 20th - Mar 26th, 2017

Weather Conditions: Light winds most of the week with mostly sunny skies.

Winds: 5-10 mph first part of the week turning 10-15 mph ENE.

Air Temperature: 80 to 84 degrees with lows in the mid 70's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 79 F. degrees

Sunrise: 5:53 am Sunset: 6:04 pm

Moonphase: Second Quarter.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Bones, bones and more bones, everyone had a great week fishing for those powerful bonefish. Seasoned anglers and beginners were finding lots of hungry bonefish because of the calmer winds and sunny skies. Even our fishing director Isa was able to get out on the water and enjoy a few tugs on the rod.

PERMIT (Palometta): Great week for the Permit. Seems like all the fish were waiting for a few calm days so they could feed on the flats. One of our friends John had an incredible day and landed 9, yes 9 Permit in one day. Awesome!

TARPON (Sabalo): What has been up with the tarpon lately? Tons of tarpon around but not a lot of them were very hungry. John W, Isa, Jim, Michael and Landon however did manage to bring some to the boat. Early start to the day seems to pay when it comes to the tarpon these days.

OTHER SPECIES: Snapper, needlefish, ladyfish, barracuda, snook, jacks, and grunt were all caught this week.

GRAND SLAM: Congratulations to Michael T. on his Grand Slam.

FISHING REPORT

Weeks of April 3 thru April 9, 2017

Weather Conditions: Sunny skies all week with some clouds in the mornings.

Winds: 10-15 gusting to 20mph with lighter winds by the end of the week.

Air Temperature: 85 to 89 degrees with lows in the high 70’s.

Water Temperature: Temp: 84 F. degrees

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): A nice week to host the Orvis Bonefish Bonanza and the Orvis fly fishing school. Everyone had fun catching numerous bonefish with some anglers catching as many as fifty bonefish for the week. Lots of great memories created with many happy anglers.

PERMIT (Palometta): Most everyone saw permit this week and some of the lucky ones managed to land one. Our friends Mike and Cindy, Louis, Isaac and Steven fooled some really nice size permit into eating their fly and bait. It’s always a wild ride when the Permit make the decision to turn and eat.

TARPON (Sabalo): More tarpon seen this week than in the weeks past, with lots of interest. Some of the anglers were casting to tarpon for most of their fishing day with school after school coming by. Steven landed the largest of the week which was over one hundred pounds on his way to a grand slam.

OTHER SPECIES: Snapper, Ladyfish, Squirrel fish, Barracuda, Snook, Jacks and a lot of rays (sun rays that is) as the non-anglers enjoyed their days by the pool.

GRAND SLAM: Congratulations to Steven on his Grand Slam!

FISHING REPORT

Weeks of April 10 thru April 16

Weather Conditions: Sunny skies all week with some clouds in the mornings and a few rain showers.

Winds: 10-15 winds throughout the week.

Air Temperature: 85 to 88 degrees with lows in the mid to high 70’s.

Water Temperature: Temp: 84 F. degrees

Sunrise: 5:36 am Sunset: 6:09 pm

Moonphase: Full.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): As usual the bonefish are always plentiful and catchable. Everybody joined in the fun. Anne, Tom, Isaac, Jacob, Steve, Mary Margaret, Mike, Case, Jeff, Kathleen, Ben, Nader, Ken, Eric, Macy, Andy, Paul, Annabelle, Wayne, KT, Matt and Stuart all had a great week of bonefishing. We also caught a few tagged fish that will help us better understand their movements once we get the results. Always cool to learn more about our bonefish habits.

PERMIT (Palometta): Isaac, Marianne, Mike, Andy, Ben and Nader all landed nice Permit this week. Isa our fishing director put Isaac on some nice tarpon in an effort to get a grand slam but they were not hungry. Maybe next time Isaac!

TARPON (Sabalo): Plenty of big tarpon around this week, but our anglers couldn’t get one to the boat. Wayne hooked in to a big tarpon while Annabelle played camera women. Although he did not get it to the boat, Annabelle took some awesome pictures. Thanks for the great camera work Annabelle!!

OTHER SPECIES: Jacks, Needlefish, Barracuda, Snapper, Ladyfish, Squirrelfish and a host of others our fly and spin fishing anglers found.

FISHING REPORT

Weeks of April 17th - April 23th

Weather Conditions: Some rains overnight with sunny skies most days.

Winds: 10-15 winds throughout the week ending with light winds for the weekend.

Air Temperature: 86 to 89 degrees with lows in the mid to high 70’s.

Water Temperature: Temp: 84 F. degrees

Sunrise: 5:32 am Sunset: 6:10 pm

Moonphase: First Quarter.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): A lovely week. Light winds most days and lots of hungry fish even some big fish around. Peter caught a 26” bonefish which is a super nice fish for these parts. The bonefish responded to the calmer weather and are feeding heavily. A little rain overnight always helps to cool things down and brings us some pleasant mornings and active bones.

PERMIT (Palometta): Several permit hooked this week, but as is often the case, not as many landed. As experienced anglers know, permit don’t come easy! However, Mike beat the odds and managed to get one to the boat. It’s only a matter of time until your permit hunting finally pays off. Keep at it and enjoy the hunt.

TARPON (Sabalo): Great two weeks of tarpon fishing for the boys from Germany. They all joined in the fun and landed several large tarpon each after early morning starts. Joseph and Barry also landed some nice ones with several other folks jumping a few.

OTHER SPECIES: Jacks, needlefish, barracuda, snapper, ladyfish, squirrelfish and a host of others our fly and spin fishing anglers found.

GRAND SLAM: Alas, no Grand Slams this week.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Always Christmas Island Specials, Mantis shrimp in tan, and Gotchas.

FOR PERMIT - Avalon, Mantis Shrimp, Peterson Shrimp and Bauer Crabs.

FOR TARPON - White Toads , White Bunnies, and Black Death worked well.

This Week’s Summary:

What a delightful week with so many new friends from around the world. We hope that everyone made it home safely and we look forward to next time.
