BONEFISH (Macabi): Bones, bones and more bones, everyone had a great week fishing for those powerful bonefish. Seasoned anglers and beginners were finding lots of hungry bonefish because of the calmer winds and sunny skies. Even our fishing director Isa was able to get out on the water and enjoy a few tugs on the rod.

PERMIT (Palometta): Great week for the Permit. Seems like all the fish were waiting for a few calm days so they could feed on the flats. One of our friends John had an incredible day and landed 9, yes 9 Permit in one day. Awesome!

TARPON (Sabalo): What has been up with the tarpon lately? Tons of tarpon around but not a lot of them were very hungry. John W, Isa, Jim, Michael and Landon however did manage to bring some to the boat. Early start to the day seems to pay when it comes to the tarpon these days.

FISHING REPORT

Weeks of April 17th - April 23th

Weather Conditions: Some rains overnight with sunny skies most days.

Winds: 10-15 winds throughout the week ending with light winds for the weekend.

Air Temperature: 86 to 89 degrees with lows in the mid to high 70's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 84 F. degrees

Sunrise: 5:32 am Sunset: 6:10 pm

Moonphase: First Quarter.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): A lovely week. Light winds most days and lots of hungry fish even some big fish around. Peter caught a 26" bonefish which is a super nice fish for these parts. The bonefish responded to the calmer weather and are feeding heavily. A little rain overnight always helps to cool things down and brings us some pleasant mornings and active bones.

PERMIT (Palometta): Several permit hooked this week, but as is often the case, not as many landed. As experienced anglers know, permit don't come easy! However, Mike beat the odds and managed to get one to the boat. It's only a matter of time until your permit hunting finally pays off. Keep at it and enjoy the hunt.

TARPON (Sabalo): Great two weeks of tarpon fishing for the boys from Germany. They all joined in the fun and landed several large tarpon each after early morning starts. Joseph and Barry also landed some nice ones with several other folks jumping a few.

OTHER SPECIES: Jacks, needlefish, barracuda, snapper, ladyfish, squirrelfish and a host of others our fly and spin fishing anglers found.

GRAND SLAM: Alas, no Grand Slams this week.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Always Christmas Island Specials, Mantis shrimp in tan, and Gotchas.

FOR PERMIT - Avalon, Mantis Shrimp, Peterson Shrimp and Bauer Crabs.

FOR TARPON - White Toads , White Bunnies, and Black Death worked well.

This Week's Summary:

What a delightful week with so many new friends from around the world. We hope that everyone made it home safely and we look forward to next time.

FISHING REPORT

Weeks of April 24th - April 30th

Weather Conditions: A beautiful start to the week ending with strong winds.

Winds: 10-15 winds earlier in the week ending with strong winds.

Air Temperature: 87 to 90 degrees with lows in the mid to high 70's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 84 F. degrees

Sunrise: 5:27 am Sunset: 6:13 pm

Moonphase: Last Quarter.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Light winds at the beginning of the week with strong winds ending the week. The fish are always hungry ahead of a storm and this week was not different. All the fish were eating including the tarpon and permit. Most of our guests landed bonefish with some of them bringing large bones to the boat.

PERMIT (Palometta): The Permit were also very receptive and eating heavily until the high winds forced them into deep water. Many of our lucky anglers managed to hook into them earlier in the week; but they are always playing hard to get. Sarah from Montana got it done and so did Sue, Jim, Zeb, Michelle, Diane and Peter. Great work!

TARPON (Sabalo): Twelve tarpon landed this week with several over seventy pounds. Persistence pays off when it comes to tarpon fishing. Lots and lots of shots over the last month with minimal eats until this week. It won't be long until the big boys of summer show up. Get your big gear ready and join us for the one hundred + pounders coming into our waters soon.

OTHER SPECIES: Jacks, barracuda, snapper, ladyfish, squirrelfish and a host of others our fly and spin fishing anglers found.

GRAND SLAM: Three grand slams this week!

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Always Christmas Island Specials, Mantis shrimp in tan, and Gotchas

FOR PERMIT - Peterson Shrimp and Crabs worked well.

FOR TARPON - White Toads , White Bunnies, and Black Death worked well.

This Week's Summary:

Awesome week getting to know all of our new friends. Always a pleasure hanging out with great people in such a beautiful place. Life's good!

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Good week! Jim Grandt brought twenty hungry spin fisherman eager to land permit, tarpon, and bonefish for their annual spin fishing tournament. Plenty of bonefish were brought to the boats as all the anglers experienced a lovely weather week. Top rod for the tournament caught over 50 bonefish. Bill B and John T also had a blast catching lots of bones as well. Francisco from San Salvador joined the fun and landed quite a few even though his stay was short.

PERMIT (Palometta): When you present a fresh crab to a permit it is hard for them to say no. Lots of folks landing permit during the tournament with some of the anglers bringing in some big boys. Bill and John weren't going to be outdone and caught some on the fly. As usual, there's always a lot more Permit seen than landed, but always fun to have the opportunities.

TARPON (Sabalo): The tarpon were cooperating nicely this week eating as many sardines as they could. John, who was one of the tournament participants hooked several tarpon and landed one that was at least one hundred and fifty pounds. Francisco was having fun and also landed a nice one. FISHING REPORT

Weeks of May 8 thru May 14, 2017

Weather Conditions: A couple of overnight showers, mainly sunny.

Winds: Strong winds to start the week ending with lighter winds.

Air Temperature: 87 to 90 degrees with lows in the low 80's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 84 F. degrees

Sunrise: 5:21 am Sunset: 6:17 pm

Moonphase: Second Quarter.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Another awesome week of bonefishing with the Baton Rouge group. Alex and Bailey put together a fun group of fishermen and women to try their hand at bonefishing. Everybody had a great time and caught plenty of bonefish. The weather was beautiful and the fish were hungry. Belize is the perfect spot for the beginning bonefish angler. Come give it a try!

PERMIT (Palometta): It is always a good day when you are fishing. This week, with the nice weather was no exception and our anglers landed eight Permit. Our fishery is so abundant with those hard to catch, crazy, unpredictable, nutty, wonderful Permit. There is a reason a t-shirt is sold that says "Why I didn't catch a permit today". Hard to catch, but fun to hunt.

TARPON (Sabalo): The big boys of summer are close by and headed our way. Sightings of some very large Tarpon are becoming a daily occurrence. Our Tarpon anglers and guides are willing to wake up early to chase those monsters. Just like the Permit, the Tarpon can play hard to get, but hooking in to a fish that is over one hundred pounds is quite the experience and something every saltwater angler must try.

OTHER SPECIES: Jacks, barracuda, and snapper.

GRAND SLAM: Congratulations to Kevin D. on his GRAND SLAM!

Weeks of May 15th - May 21st, 2017

Weather Conditions: Hot and sunny.

Winds: 10-15 mph ending with strong winds.

Air Temperature: Highs in the 90's with lows in the 80's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 84 F. degrees

Sunrise: 5:19 am Sunset: 6:19 pm

Moonphase: Last Quarter.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Very enjoyable week with a lot of great fishing. Sarah and Seth were the hosts of this week's Orvis group. Lots of bonefish and plenty of laughter as we all had a wonderful time getting to know one another. Family and friends are what lodge life is all about; and everyone walked away with new friends and big smiles. Always a treat seeing new faces!

PERMIT (Palometta): The permit fishing is very active these days and all the anglers are getting daily chances. Some of our lucky anglers landed permit on their way to grand slams. It never ceases to amaze me when that beginning angler lands a permit, while others try for years before the keepers of the permit let them in.

TARPON (Sabalo): Tarpon galore, around this week. Anglers were seeing multiple schools and getting lots of chances to connect. The early bird gets the worm and our tarpon anglers are always rising early to catch the morning rollers. Hunter, Rick, Stephen, Tim and Kevin managed to land tarpon.

OTHER SPECIES: Barracuda, snapper, ladyfish, and some jacks

GRAND SLAM: Congratulations to David and Gary on their GRAND SLAMS!

FISHING REPORT

Weeks of May 22th - May 28th, 2017

Weather Conditions: Sunny with isolated showers.

Winds: 10-15mph winds.

Air Temperature: Highs in the 90's with lows in the 80's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 84 F. degrees

Sunrise: 5:18 am Sunset: 6:22 pm

Moonphase: New moon.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): A bit windy this week but all of the bonefish anglers were successful with their efforts and as usual, landed multiple bonefish. Belize is the perfect place for the first time bonefish angler. Steve and Scott were the top rods this week boating over 130 bonefish in just three days of fishing. Excellent!

PERMIT (Palometta): The Permit fishing continues to be very active these days, and the diehard permit anglers are getting plenty of daily chances. William only landed one fish during his single day of fishing, and it was a permit. What luck some people have!

TARPON (Sabalo): Tarpon are pouring into the area, and everyone is having fun taking shots. Some of our anglers have reported seeing more tarpon than they can count. Most definitely a welcome sight. This fishery is one of the best in the world for hunting this prehistoric species. Don't let another summer go by without giving it a try!

OTHER SPECIES: Cobia, barracuda, snapper, ladyfish, and jacks.

GRAND SLAM: Congratulations to Brian Leftwich on his Grand Slam!

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials, Tan Squimp and Mantis shrimp.
