Letter to the Editor: Seeking Better Opportunities
It has been a pleasure to have served my beloved community as a Traffic Warden for the past year and five months. I, Ismael Mayo Badillo, would like to inform the general public that Friday, June 2nd will be my last day working at the San Pedro Traffic Department as I have formally submitted my resignation due to irregularities in the job. At the same time, I believe it is time for me to move and seek better opportunities. I take this opportunity to humbly thank everyone for allowing me to render my services. Thanks to Mayor Daniel Guerrero, The San Pedro Town Council, and my colleagues for the opportunity to work with them. I will forever be grateful. Respectfully, Ismael ‘Mayo’ Badillo.

Wolfe’s Woofer: Raincoat
“I’ll be gone most of the morning,” I told Sherry. “Where are you off to?” “Paying bills,” I said. “This is the last week of the month. I’ll be gone all morning for sure and maybe some of the afternoon.” “Make sure you take an umbrella,” she said. “It’s supposed to rain today.” I only made it to the bank when the skies opened up. I put up my umbrella and the wind immediately turned it inside out and tried to snatch it from my hand. “Why are you back so soon?’ Sherry asked, when I stumbled through the door.

Letter to the Editor: Building Permit Application
Dear Editor, I am writing to thank the Town Council for 5 and a half days they have spent working on several blocks of Sea Grape Drive with numerous trucks of fill and hours of heavy equipment. I understand the Ministry of Works loaned the equipment to the Town Council so thanks to them also. I would like to suggest that the residents of an improved Sea Grape Drive tour the DFC area so we can truly appreciate our good fortune. There are areas of the DFC where there are no roads, none at all. Residents walk into their homes through swampy areas filled with landfill trash. I’m going to assume building permits were issued so folks could build in the DFC area.

Doctor Love: Dumped
Dear Doctor Love, My best friend and I have known each other since we were babies and we have always had a very close relationship. When she started dating her first boyfriend I was worried because he has a very bad reputation and I told her that. She cut me off completely saying I was jealous and mean. She wouldn’t talk to me or hang out any more even though I apologized. He did exactly what I warned her about and they broke up a week ago. Now she wants to be friends again but I don’t know if I should trust her. What if she does it again? We have to see each other all the time so it would be easier but I don’t think it can be like it used to be. Should I be friends or should I let it go? /s/Dumped

COLA president surprised by ban from Senate inquiry
While the Senate inquiry on the immigration scandal went smoothly on Wednesday, firebrand activist Geovanni Brackett of Citizens Organized for Liberty through Action (COLA), is up in arms after he and Raymond Rivers were banned from entering the hearing. Brackett, on Friday, spoke to the Reporter newspaper about what he classified as an “unjustifiable attack on him, since he says he was never notified that an ongoing ban was placed on him after he had protested against Senator Rocke in October of last year. “We deem the actions to be unjustifiable and senseless, since we did not pose any real physical threat to any member of the house.”

Pook’s Hill Lodge; visiting the rainforest during the rainy season
Our destination – and one that has been on my ‘must do’ list for some time: Pook’s Hill Lodge. Nestled within lush jungle 5.5 miles south of Teakettle village on the Western Highway between Belmopan and San Ignacio, it’s an easy drive from Belize City. If you don’t have wheels, they offer transport options to and from many locations within the country. The Pook’s Hill property is a carpet of hilly, green landscape dotted with thatched cottages that remind me of hobbit homes, and the surrounding forest, busy with chirping birds and flitting butterflies is enchanting. Add the soft soundtrack of drizzling rain, and you are immersed in a jungle ambiance that almost begs for a nap.

Less than TWO WEEKS To San Pedro Lobsterfest! The Details
Time flies when you are busy…and having fun. It’s already JUNE. And that means Lobster season in Belize AND Lobster Festivals along the coast. Placencia, Caye Caulker and…AMBERGRIS CAYE! The San Pedro Lobsterfestival was first celebrated in 2007. My friends and I had a cupcake stand – forgot to bring any lighting – and had to sleep for 48 hours as soon as it was over. Here was our unlit banner. We are now on festival #11 and it’s shaping up to be a great one.

It's that time of the Year where Prom Night is celebrated on the month of June around Belize.
