"...we do not tolerate wrongdoing as long as it is brought to our attention..."
In other words, if it isn't brought to our attention we're not going to worry too much....

And as long as we know about it we can sweep it under the rug and forget about it. Do you know Belize only has a 5% conviction rate for all crime? Does anyone see how that just increases crime?

The Mayor in San Pedro has a good idea.
Separate traffic offences from the police work and let the towns traffic cops solely deal with all traffic.
The police see traffic offence as a cash cow and spend their time maneuvering violators into paying cash on the spot to get off.
Not a solution to the the big problem but a step in that direction.
Wetlands is correct " Making examples of the bad ones might prove a deterrent to others."

Examples is a good idea but PC's all over Belize commit major crimes and never see jail. PC's in PG were drunk and killed a man. Never saw the inside of prison. Drug plane lands and PC's found with van full of drugs never saw prison. These guys who did this holdup will never see a day in jail. And then the town cops will extort the traffic fines so no change. Until this changes it will continue to get worse in Belize.

Officer in the picture was taken to Belmopan police station where he escaped. Matters are being looked into and he will be dealt with when caught.

Yeah,....OK...(really?)

Let's not forget .... this is a third world/bananna republic that happens to have stuff that we Gringos like.

(Take a minute and look into all the international corruption that happens here)

I think I'm done with Belize.
