FISHING REPORT

Weeks of May 29th - June 4th, 2017

Weather Conditions: Sunny with isolated showers and strong winds.

Winds: 5-20 mph winds with 30 mph gusts

Air Temperature: Highs in the 90's with lows in the 80's

Water Temperature: Temp: 84 F. degrees

Sunrise: 5:15 am Sunset: 6:24 pm

Moonphase: New moon.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): The winds haven't let up the entire week. Some bonefish caught but with the strong winds, it's been difficult. The most successful anglers have been using bait. The fish are still hungry and are eager to get on the flats to feed. Winds will be calming down this coming week and the anglers will certainly reap the rewards. Looking forward to some great fishing!

PERMIT (Palometta): All the species are ready and willing to feed. John, who is a long time saltwater angler and a repeat guest is still after his first Permit. On Saturday, he told me he saw hundreds of Permit but could not get them to eat his fly. The anglers and the fish are waiting for the winds to settle down so the fish can start feeding and the anglers can start catching. There seems to be a line drawn in the sand and it's called "wind". It's just a matter of time before we can cross it.

TARPON (Sabalo): A few Tarpon caught this week using both fly and spin gear. Tim, Nick, Christy, Paul and Joe had a great day of fishing and landed nice Tarpon and a host of other species. Joe almost made it a super slam only missing the Permit. Christy missed the Snook but got her grand slam. The migratory Tarpon are moving in and so are the Tarpon anglers. Busy week ahead and a nice forecast for the week as well. Can't wait.

OTHER SPECIES: Plenty of snapper, barracuda, and ladyfish.

GRAND SLAM: Congratulations to Christy G on her Grand Slam!

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials, Tan Squimp and Mantis shrimp.

FOR PERMIT - Peterson Shrimp and Camo Crabs working nicely.

FOR TARPON - Eating White toads, Bunnies, Black Deaths and some chartruese.

This Week's Summary:

Very windy week for fishing, but a lot of new friends made.

Fish On!

FISHING REPORT

Weeks of June 5th - June 11th, 2017

Weather Conditions: Mainly sunny.

Winds: 0-12 mph winds most of the week.

Air Temperature: Highs in the 90's with lows in the 80's

Water Temperature: Temp: 85 F. degrees

Sunrise: 5:15 am Sunset: 6:25 pm

Moonphase: Full moon.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): What a great week to be a bone fishermen or women. The winds finally let up and gave the anglers some beautiful days of fishing with lots and lots of hungry fish.

PERMIT (Palometta): The permit are around in droves this week and with the calmer weather they were also ready to eat. Many of our anglers enjoyed that awesome fight that the permit gives every angler. Kitty, who had never fished for permit before but, came to the lodge on a permit mission, caught one in the most unusual way. After a long day of permit hunting with no luck, she was enjoying a beverage outside the bar, and a permit literally almost fell in her lap. An osprey had caught one and made a special delivery by dropping it at her feet from 100' up. Isa, our fishing director, picked it up, tossed it to her and it quickly became her first "caught" Permit and the catch of the day. Crazy!

TARPON (Sabalo): The migratory Tarpon are in, the resident Tarpon are hungry, and everybody is having a blast with shot after shot. An angler in almost every group landed a Tarpon this week. What a great time to be at El Pescador. If you love Tarpon fishing, join us. We are always open and ready to go fishing. See you soon!

OTHER SPECIES: Snook, barracuda, snapper, and ladyfish.

GRAND SLAM: Congratulations to Rob G. on his GRAND SLAM!

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials, Tan Squimp and Mantis shrimp.

FOR PERMIT - Peterson Shrimp and Squimp.

FOR TARPON - Eating White, Black, and Black / Purple Toads.

This Week's Summary:

Perfect weather and hungry fish. What could be better!

BONEFISH (Macabi): Another wonderful group of people at the lodge this week. Reid and Kim B hosted an Orvis group and everybody had a great time. The weather was very cooperative and so were the fish. Each angler landed bonefish and Tom was top rod this week with close to two hundred bonefish landed. Great job Tom!

PERMIT (Palometta): The Permit were around again this week, but not quite as hungry. Our anglers spent a lot of time chasing those wild and crazy guys with not much luck. Several of our anglers landed some nice fish though. Jeff and Scott doubled up, each landing a nice Permit. Lots of good size Permit seen this Sunday but, not many eats. We will try again next week.

TARPON (Sabalo): Plenty of tarpon landed this week in spite of the lack of Permit. Some of our anglers had multiple shots with multiple hook ups. Pam caught a really nice Tarpon. Kim, the host of the Orvis group, managed to land three in one day fishing the back lagoon while the group was out enjoying their time out on the water. Isa, our fishing director knows where to find them in the back lagoon. Come join us and let him take you too!

PERMIT (Palometta): The permit have been very receptive this week. Lots and lots of permit seen on the flats and also in the deeper water while tarpon fishing. Air Temperature: Highs in the 80's with lows in the low 80's

Water Temperature: Temp: 84 F. degrees.

Sunrise: 5:25 am Sunset: 6:31 pm

Moonphase: Full Moon.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): An entire week filled with beautiful days and hungry bonefish. New and seasoned fly fishing anglers landed many bonefish. Some even had bonefish catch and release counts in double digits. This fishery always produces tons of opportunities for bone fishermen and fisherwomen. Come join in on the bonefishing fun.

PERMIT (Palometta): Lots of permit were around this week, but not many landed. Some large permit were also spotted on the flats and in the deeper water while anglers were tarpon fishing. The anglers targeting them were putting in the bow time and most still walked away empty handed. Permit are notoriously hard to catch. Keep trying, and you will prevail.

TARPON (Sabalo): Once again the tarpon were around in abundance this last week as the migratory season remains in full swing. Anglers had to rise early to target the Silver Kings and several tarpon landed. Come and play the tarpon game with us and experience this beautiful environment.

FISHING REPORT

Weeks of July 10th - July 16th, 2017

Weather Conditions: Mainly sunny with passing clouds and some afternoon showers.

Winds: 10-15 mph winds most of the week with a few calmer days.

Air Temperature: Highs in the high 80's to mid ninety's with lows near 80.

Water Temperature: Temp: 84 F. degrees.

Sunrise: 5:27 am Sunset: 6:31 pm

Moonphase: Third quarter.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): A nice week of weather and the bonefish are around in large numbers feeding very well. Our anglers have all been catching a lot of bonefish. Whether you're a beginner or experienced angler using either bait or a fly, the fish are super hungry and biting it all. The great weather looks like it will continue for the next few days and hopefully longer.

PERMIT (Palometta): Permit around this week and hungry. Large schools of permit have been seen on the flats, and some anglers have managed to get hooked up. Not too many anglers targeting the permit this week, but the ones who do are having a lot of success.

TARPON (Sabalo): Many of our anglers are fishing for tarpon only this week and really getting a lot of chances. Most of the days the tarpon are super aggressive with flies and live bait. At the end of the week, as anglers are leaving, the first time tarpon pins we give out for the catch have been on the increase. Way to go tarpon chasers!

OTHER SPECIES: Needlefish, ladyfish, barracuda, snapper, jack, cobia and grouper .

GRAND SLAM: No grand slams this week.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials, Tan Squimp and Mantis Shrimp.

This Week's Summary:

Another beautiful week to be in Belize. You better BELIZE IT!!

FISHING REPORT

Weeks of July 17th - July 23rd, 2017

Weather Conditions: Mainly sunny and some afternoon showers.

Winds: 10-15 mph winds most of the week.

Air Temperature: Highs in the high 80's with lows near 80.

Water Temperature: Temp: 84 F. degrees.

Sunrise: 5:29 am Sunset: 6:30 pm

Moonphase: New Moon.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Another great week at El Pescador. It sounds like a broken record but everyone is catching lots of bonefish again. With the high tide coming in the morning, each angler can start the day chasing permit and tarpon and end with the bonefish once the sun is high in the sky. Bonefish tend to like an outgoing tide and are feeding well when the light is right.

PERMIT (Palometta): We are happy to have Bill O. and friends here this week chasing permit and tarpon and the group are finding large numbers of each. The marine reserve at Bacalar Chico on the Mexico border is a great place to find all three species and is a beautiful area to fish. Come and experience the beauty.

TARPON (Sabalo): "Tons of Tarpon" is the common theme this week. There are so many hungry tarpon around. Michelle managed to hook up with five in one day. Freda, a first time tarpon angler also landed two nice tarpon, with one of those weighing in around seventy pounds. If you have never experienced it, watching a tarpon jump out of the water while one is on the end of "your" line is a sight to see and something every angler should be able to put on their catch list. Come and put it on "YOURS".

OTHER SPECIES: Needlefish, ladyfish, barracuda, snapper, jack, and grouper.

GRAND SLAM: No grand slams this week.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange and pink size 6 & 8, Tan Squimp and Mantis shrimp.

FOR TARPON - Lots of white this week in toads and bunnies, black on black, red on black and tan are all great colors.

This Week's Summary:

Lots of happy anglers and tons of fish coupled with an awesome staff and great food. Who needs anything else?

Water Temperature: Temp: 84 F. degrees.

BONEFISH (Macabi): Bonefish abound. All of the anglers this week have enjoyed wonderful weather and lots of fish. The week has been filled with record catches and happy anglers. The light winds we have been experiencing are allowing the fish to feed heavily and for longer periods since the tides aren't wind driven.

PERMIT (Palometta): We had a great time hosting the film crew from Columbia Sportswear this week and look forward to their return. A 29lb Permit was landed as part of a grand slam which was one of four slams this week. The Permit remained very active and hungry for bait and fly.

BELIZE FISHING REPORT

Weeks of July 31st - August 6th, 2017

Weather Conditions: Mainly sunny and some afternoon showers.

Winds: Light east winds most of the week with some gusty winds.

Air Temperature: Highs in the high 80's with lows near 80.

Water Temperature: Temp: 85 F. degrees.

Sunrise: 5:34 am Sunset: 6:22 pm

Moonphase: Full Moon.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Some nice bonefish landed by the tournament anglers this week as well as our anglers not participating in the tournament. The weather has been good, and the tides are changing during the optimal times of the day. Every week our anglers experience the opportunity to go after as many bonefish as they desire with the abundant populations of the fish we all love to catch.

PERMIT (Palometta): Just enough hungry permit around this week to give all our anglers a try at those hard to catch, uncooperative, crazy, unpredictable nutty fish we love to get on the end of the line! Jonathan, who took second place in the tournament, caught his on the way to a daily grand slam which made a big difference with points at the end of the day and helped his team place second overall.

TARPON (Sabalo): Our tarpon continue to be the species of the week. It is the time of year when those tarpon anglers wipe off the dust from their rods and come down to chase those big boys. And there are plenty around. Every day anglers come in with awesome stories about their day on the water hunting tarpon. We have had several anglers jump some tarpon in the 150-175 range. Super cool to see a fish that size grab your fly or bait. A sight to see!

OTHER SPECIES: Jack, grouper, needlefish, barracuda, snapper, a pelican, and a frigate bird.

GRAND SLAM: One grand slam this week when it really counted with team Spydermen.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange and pink size 6 & 8, Tan Squimp and Mantis shrimp.

FOR PERMIT - Peterson Shrimp, Squimp and crabs in tan and olive.

FOR TARPON - Lots of white this week in toads and bunnies, black on black, red on black and tan are all great colors.

This Week's Summary:

As the dust settles and the tropical storm passes without incident, we end up with a huge number of permit, tarpon and bonefish landed this week. Tournament time is over and El Pescador placed 2nd and 3rd! We will look forward to first place next time! Great Job Guys!

Weather Conditions: Mild tropical storm, with no effects thankfully! Then turned sunny and nice.

Winds: Light east winds rest of the week.

Air Temperature: Highs in the high 80's with lows near 80.

Water Temperature: Temp: 85 F. degrees.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Always great fishing after a storm. All species are feeding well this week and all are around in large numbers. Some nice bonefish landed by the tournament anglers last week, and this continues as the weather remains pleasant.

PERMIT (Palometta): Permit around in large numbers. Each of our permit anglers are getting multiple shots during the day and most have been successful landing the elusive permit. First time anglers are often the most successful. Funny how it works that way for the first time permit anglers!

TARPON (Sabalo): Adam M is here tagging tarpon this week in an effort to gain a better understanding of the movements of our migratory populations of tarpon. We are using satellite tags which will hopefully give us the information we need to continue the protection efforts of this fish we all love to catch. We still know so little about the migration patterns of our tarpon. Come join us next year and be part of the science. Thank you for all your efforts Adam!!

OTHER SPECIES: Needlefish, Barracuda, Snapper, Cobia.

GRAND SLAM: No Grand Slams this week.
