That HURRICANE HARVEY is really going in to hammer the Texas coast this evening possibly as a Cat.3 now. already up to 110 mph winds and a very tight centre, had a clear eye some time yesterday. Belize has general ESE Caribbean winds which are forming lines of white clouds. Only a few small patches of rain around.
Looks like generally a sunny day with white clouds, could develop into some rain later today.

Storms ....... did a little research this morning. In 2001 Hurricane Keith hit Ambergris Caye and stayed a long time. Like most residents I was here for the storm. It was a crappy experience, but knowing that Keith had been a Cat 4 (winds topping at 140), I was feeling pretty confident about the ability to ride things out. BUT - and this is a very sobering BUT ....... turns out that when Keith hit Ambergris Caye it was only a ONE. Not even a two. A ONE. And look at the mess it made. Think about that when deciding on storm prep and potential evacuation. Admittedly the water was as bad as a four, but the wind was apparently "not that bad". OMG. Felt bad to me. I can only hope the stats are wrong and that what we experienced was far more than a one. If the stats are correct, I may be planning differently in future. Any storm experts with more details, please share.

Definitely where we were located on the island during Keith the wind speeds were in excess of 111 MPH. It was a category one on quite a few occasions during the 3 day event but we experienced significantly higher winds. We could tell by watching the trees, the roof tiles and the items being lifted and hurled etc. Seeing the asphalt roof shingles imbedding into coconut trees was shocking. Being in the eye and looking up and seeing the hurricane hunters was very sobering for us.

Thanks Amanda. Good info. I was pretty sure we had a major hurricane on our hands ...... then thinking that what we experienced might have been a low-end blow was very unsettling. Did you have a wind-meter --- ?
I went for a walk outside during Keith and got a once in a lifetime (hopefully) experience of being blown off the ground. I struggled against the wind to get behind a building and the roof of that building blew off. I was starting to get concerned for myself. Most exciting beach stroll I've ever had. I've been through a few here in the last couple of decades and learned that a larger concern in these disastrous type of events is human behavior. It's difficult to describe but my thoughts were that I need a firearm.
