Last night I went to DJ's at Belizean Shores. Haven't eaten in that location for years. Several different operators, not sure what they had- just didn't go.
Well, last night we drove south and stopped at the first place that was open - DJ's it was. Super impressed and SO glad we went there.
Different and very sensible menu - two basic salad choices that can have shrimp or chicken added to make a full meal. An excellent list of appetizers - we had chicken poppers and even those traditional snacks were done very differently, and they were fantastic. The honey-mustard dip was to die for. There is a long list of remarkable burgers, and a"pasta bowl" section - bowl of pasta, pick your topping (alfredo? Chipotle cream? old fashioned mack-n-cheese?) Also some great sandwiches. I opted for fish and chips - huge portion of delicate fish fillets done in panco breading. Light, tasty and NOT greasy. Choice of fresh plantain chips or french fries on the side. I could not finish my dinner last night and just now woofed down my left-over fish fillet. It was not tough or greasy even the next morning. The room is pleasant (you do have to climb 3 flights of stairs), the wait staff was very nice. The menu is the same for lunch through dinner. My friends had - a burger / chicken-fried-steak-chicken on mashed potatoes ......... they loved their food. Portions are large. Prices reflect the quality and portion size. My fish and chips dinner was $18 US. Limited but good selection of wine - one white, one red, one rose - each one a good vintner. I cannot wait to go back. Really.
