Last night our 'Chief of Police' known locally as the 'Officer in Charge' Henry Jemmott attended our South Ambergris Caye Neighborhood Watch meeting. Mr. Jemmott stated he gets a great deal of attention when there is a crime, yet no one reports the positive facts...... I agree with him.

He spoke briefly yet directly about our current crime situation. First and Foremost he state that the major crimes we are experiencing are isolated to specific persons and lifestyle choices. He goes on to say that major crime on the island is down 39% from last year and even better than many other years before. He thanked us for our diligence in working with the Police Department to deter crime and humbly asked if we could share this information and get the word out to others.

IMHO: No one ever calls the Police and says "hey guys thanks for all your hard work, things are good around here" .... Maybe once in awhile we should..... Thank You Mr. Henry and thank you SACNW, we feel quite safe on this little piece of sand in the Sea and we owe it to you!

Best Chief of Police we have had in my time here by a long long shot. He cares he listens he acts. He doesnt have first or even second world resources yet does deliver. Very noticeable drop in crime like robberies muggings and break ins. Yes we have issues with gangs shootings and drugs but who doesn't these days. That needs a political solution worldwide or in bigger countries than Belize.

Just yesterday I was thinking about the fact that we have had no/few home invasions for some time. Crime has definitely taken a changed direction. At least we can feel safe in our own homes. Thanks to all the good guys.
