Approved Development Project on Caye Caulker Belize
This project is on the north side. Honored with the Minister’s Award at the 15th annual National Tourism Awards. You’re a sensational Belizean Mr. Leslie!

Mrs. Athelo Endora Cabral
Mrs. Athelo Endora Cabral (nee Smith ) was born in Belize City on December 20th 1911. She first visited Placencia on vacation in 1936, while a Ward Maid in the Punta Gorda Hospital. Soon thereafter, she caught the eyes of Leopold (poly) Cabral and with the permission of her mother he began to court Thelo. Four long years after, they were married. In Placencia, she volunteered to teach young people and served as the midwife during the absence of the midwives of Seine Bight and Monkey River. In 1968, she received her Official Midwife Registration Certificate.

Another murder reported
There is an unofficial report that another man was shot dead tonight in Belize City. The incident happened on McKay Boulevard in the Lake Independence area sometime after 5:00 this evening. The man, whose name we withhold again until police can identify him, reportedly passed away a couple hours ago.

Churches prepare to protest again
The National Evangelical Association of Belize (NEAB) is preparing to host a march and rally in Belmopan, to demonstrate their discontent with decisions the Government of Belize has made on several issues. NEAB’s “Family Values Rally” is scheduled from 9:30 to 11:30 on Tuesday, October 31, in front of the National Assembly building. Representatives from NEAB explained that the organization is concerned that GOB has taken no material steps in addressing the issues the churches have raised with the National Gender Policy and, more recently, with the move to decriminalize marijuana.

Tropical wave prompts flood warning
The National Meteorological Service of Belize has issued flood warnings in light of a tropical wave passing over Belize. The Met office said this morning that there are threats of localized flooding over low lying areas and threats of flash flooding near rivers and streams. Residents in these areas should take precautions to ensure their safety. The National Hurricane Center in the United States said that the tropical wave is moving West at 15 Knots per hour and is “is embedded in deep moisture with a well-defined surface trough.”

Police identify Saturday night’s murder victim
Police have identified last night’s murder victim as Sydney Lamb. 42, of #7 Oleander Street, Belize City. Police say that a gunman rode up on a bicycle while Lamb was at a shop on Casaurina Street and shot him several times in the head and upper body. The shooting happened around 7:22 p.m., abd police have yet indicated what was the motive or if they have any suspects.

Another report of police brutality in San Ignacio
A concerned mother and resident of Blackman Eddy Village, Cayo contacted BBN tonight expressing her discontent with the San Ignacio Police formation. The mother told us that a fellow villager informed her this evening that her 21 year old son was being transported via ambulance to the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan.

Police operation in PIV area ends in controversy and claims of brutality
A police operation tonight in the PIV area of Belize City ended in controversy with police firing as many as six shots to disperse a hostile crowd and residents claiming excessive use of force and abuse by police. According to residents who spoke with BBN, police visited the area earlier tonight around 6:00 and performed a search on a home on Croton Lane.

Another man gunned down in less than 24 hours in Belize City
BBN has just confirmed reports of another man gunned down on McKay Boulevard in Belize City. The victim has been identified as Shaquan Almendarez better known as, “Talla.”

Guatemala will hold referendum to go to the ICJ
The Guatemalan press is reporting that their government is pressing on with the referendum on the Belize-Guatemala territorial dispute. The Guatemalan Congress has reportedly voted that the referendum will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2018.

Orange Walk man missing for eight days and counting
Another family is on the alert after their loved one went missing without a trace eight days ago. Dennis Velasquez, 30, was last seen on October 14 when he left his home on Flamboyant Street in Orange Walk town.

Employee at Cox Tire Shop gunned down last night
Police have issued an official report confirming the murder we reported in the Lake Independence area of Belize City last night. The victim has been identified as Sydney Lamb, 42, also known as “Belly”.

The National Meteorological Center is reporting that a tropical wave is passing over Belize today. Moist and unstable conditions are expected over the country today.

San Ignacio man charged for keeping ammo without a gun license
On Friday around 12 noon,San Ignacio Police while conducting an anti-crime operation, searched the residence of Kurt Morgan,47, situated on Savannah Street, San Ignacio Town. Police found a magazine clip containing (3) .22 live ammunition inside his living room.

Man robbed of phone and jewelry in Belize City
Ashley Hemsley,31, of Belize City reported to authorities that on Friday about 1:30 p.m. while at a Chinese shop at the corner of Oleander and Peter Seco Streets, Belize City, a male person pointed a black hand gun at him and robbed him of his navy blue Samsung S7 edge cell phone.

Police issue report on senior citizen who died after being badly beaten
On Monday, October 16, 2017 around 10:45 p.m., Belize City Police visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they saw Ricardo Vasquez,82, of #10 Bagdad Street, Belize City with an abrasion to his right cheek, right hand and a cut wound to the back of his head.

Parliament gives nod to amendment to legislation regarding marijuana use
The Belize Parliament has given the green light to the amendment of the Misuse of Drugs Act with bipartisan support. The Dean Barrow government had in August piloted the amendment to the legislation that also provides for monetary and non-recordable penalties for possession on school premises and in specified circumstances make smoking on private premises no longer an offence. The Bill had been referred to the Health and Human Development Committee of the House and Prime Minister Barrow said then it was just the beginning.

A sea of plastic: Shocking images show how bottles, bags and rubbish are choking our oceans
These pictures are unlikely to make it into the glossy tourist brochures that sell the Caribbean as a paradise destination. For they show the much grimmer reality of clear blue seas increasingly choked by a tide of discarded plastic. In one photograph taken near Roatan, an island off the coast of Honduras, a diver grimaces as he prepares to enter the water almost completely covered by waste. Another, taken from below the waterline, shows plastic bottles, bags and other rubbish on the surface blocking out sunlight.
