BELIZE HOTEL ASSOCIATION HOSTS 2017 BIANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The Belize Hotel Association held its Biannual General Meeting on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 from 1:00PM- 4:00PM at Mahogany Bay Village in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. Present were members and Board of Directors of the BHA , other Tourism Stakeholders, partners and guests. Also in attendance was Ms. Karen Pike, Director of Marketing, of the BTB and Mr. John Burgos, Executive Director of the BTIA.

Keynote speaker at the event was Mr. Robi Das who is the Managing Director of the Capital Group in the Miami office of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, division of Cantor Fitzgerald, where he specializes in distressed assets and recapitalizations in the Southeastern United States and the Caribbean. His primary focus is debt and equity within the resort hospitality and marina sectors and he is currently involved in many of the marquis projects in the Turks and Caicos, as well as in the Bahamas.

Guest Speakers, Mr William Smith and Mr Lizandro Ramos of COPA Airlines, provided insightful information about their airline and routes that provide easy connections for the new emerging Latin American Market. They raffled a round trip ticket to Panama, courtesy of COPA Airlines, and the winner was drawn from the meeting attendees.

Mr Ted Tejada, President of the Belize Hotel Association delivered the President's address, followed by the Financial report, given by Treasurer, Mr Rudy Gonzalez. Ms. Trinity Castro, Director, presented the Marketing Report which highlighted the international and local efforts that the BHA is implementing this year to further promote its members and the country of Belize. Closing address was delivered by Past President Mrs Leisa Carr-Caceres

A silent Auction of Prizes donated by members of the Private Sector, wrapped up the event. This was in support of the BHA Scholarship fund, which assists with educational expenses for children of staff of BHA members. The BHA would like to thank, Karl H Menzies, Best Western Plus Belize Biltmore Plaza, Banana Bank Lodge, Sunbreeze Hotel, Wine de Vine, Chukka, Programme for Belize for their generous contributions to this event.

The meeting was followed by a cocktail held at the Banyan Bay Suites. Thank you to Travellers Limited for their sponsorship of this event.

The Belize Hotel Association (BHA) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization and Belize's oldest private sector tourism organization. Its membership is comprised primarily of accommodation providers including hotels, resorts, lodges, condominiums and educational facilities with allied members including tour operators and ancillary businesses that service the hospitality industry. The BHA works diligently to support the sustainable growth of member hotels and the tourism industry in Belize through global marketing initiatives, private and public sector partnerships and training opportunities aimed at increased standards and professional service. Above all, the BHA is committed to ensuring that visitors to Belize receive quality service at a fair price.
