Hi,
We are looking at traveling to Ambergris in April. I was wanting to do some diy shore fishing in the area. Is this doable? Are there areas better then others? I would like to take a guide for a day as well. I also would like to find a condo close an area that has some good diy fishing.
Thank you!

There are many wonderful fly fishing guides here. You can book with GoFish or Tres Pescados. And if you stay at El Pescador they eat, sleep and dream fish 24/7 and you can cast right out there on the beach when you are out with a guide in the awesome flats that surround the island.

DYI fly fishing is excellent in the areas between Solaria and Sundiver.
Check out lodgings at Solaria, Indigo, Los Encantos, Caye Villas. All three are in this prime bone-fishing neighborhood.

Thank you so much! Is there Tarpon and Permit in that area as well?

I don't think there are any tarpon there - can't say whether there are permit. Sorry, I'm not a fisherman. I just see the bodies tailing and the fishers fishing.

Definitely tarpon everywhere and permit.

But in April we may get our typical "Easter" winds which would mean the sea will get very rough and impossible to fly fish cast - and then you will want to fish on the leeward side of the island (west.)

Amanda's right about the wind. Didn't think about that, sorry.

We have a "Freedom Hawk" kayak, specially designed for fly fishing.

Our Villa, Villa Del Mar at Los Encantos overlooks a flat and we quite often see bonefish tailing whilst sitting on our deck. The wind in April however could be a problem in which case you could get on a bike which is included in the rental and cycle a short distance over the back road leading to Secret Beach where you will pretty much always see tailing fish.
