Today a routine search of a 20 foot container at the Customs Department produced an alarming discovery. The container was brought in by a US National and it was supposed to be loaded with an automobile and 71 pieces of used household and personal effects. But when Customs searched it, they found a large stash of ammunition for pistols and rifles - and well as parts for a rifle and a nine millimeter pistol. There are a number of loaded and unloaded clips for a 9 millimeter pistol, about 150 live rounds of assorted calibres, and various parts to assemble a rifle and pistol. These were concealed among the used household and personal effects. The container came from Denver, through New York to Belize by an American coming to live in Belize. The matter has now been handed over to police - and we'll keep following it.

Ok, so these items where imported against the law, correct. How would more laws curtail this activity? They wouldn't has you know so what you are saying is that U.S. citizens shouldn't have any guns, accessories or ammunition which would require a constitutional amendment and not necessarily have the results you would like. The US is unique in that it allows its citizens to protect themselves. Despite the occasional nut, the numbers percentage wide for the population are small for this activity but it does get a lot of press. In Belize where gun control is much much sticker the murder rate is much much higher per capital. In addition the numbers in the USA include suicides, gang violence (with 98% illegal guns)

Much as been written about gun control in the USA and most of it by people of your mind set. The USA is a very desirable place for most peace loving people of the world to migrate to. Excluding the sensationalism of the mostly Liberal press it is just that. The areas of the USA which have the biggest problems are the ones with the most gun control, ie: Chicago, New York, California, Baltimore, DC and so on. All of which are highly restrictive on guns. Does one think that the cartels of Central America would not have guns if the USA was gun free? That is a joke, with their billions they have the capacity to import weapons by the ship load and they do. I won't go into to the Fast and Furious of the last USA administration which seemed to be an attempt to put the blame for guns in Central America on the USA to further their desire for doing away with the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution. This message board was full of their propaganda before the scandal broke.

Gun violence is a very complicated subject and there are no easy answers. "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." Ben Franklin
If you would like to further this conversation I can provide sources and statics. I am leaving on vacation tomorrow and internet maybe spotty at best but I won't forget.

Does not seem like the strict gun laws in Belize has stopped or even slowed the gun usage in Belize either. But whoever he was he is an idiot to try this! Hope they lock him up in Hattieville and finds there is no color cable TV available!

Well Ragman; there you go again.. Another perfect response, before I could even get around to reply with a shorter, less well thought out reply. Glad to see your reply. Now I can just go back to al the "groped" news on TV

A little known fact... Women who are overweight tend to live longer than men who mention it...
