A couple of questions. We are going with Seaduced on their cave tubing and zoo trip next week.. cant wait!!

One of my friends is worried about bats and bugs in the caves.. were they a bother at all??

Anyone know if SeaDuced takes credit cards? It doesnt say on their webpage and i know some of my friends were planning to pay that way.. so I wanted to make sure up front.

How is the hike part and how long is the actual tube portion? Do most folks wear just a bathing suit, or a t-shirt and shorts or somethng over it.. Basically, what should we be prepared for!

Thanks a bunch

We went with Seaduced last August - great trip. We saw bats in a couple of locations and we were able to look at them from as close as we wanted - like 12" away. They were hanging on the sloping ceiling. If your friends have problems with bats, they don't have to get close to them, but, they'll wish they did, because it was incredible seeing bats that close. We saw one female bat nursing a baby - it felt like being on "Animal Planet."

Bugs were not a problem on the trip any more than they were elsewhere in Belize. Just goop up first.

I don't know the distance of the hike, but, it was about 45-50 minutes, at a leisurely pace and level terrain. Crossed the stream a couple of times - wear sandals that won't slip off - through-the-toe flip flops may come off in the current, making for a long barefoot hike. In our group of four, we all wore shorts and tee shirts.

Seaduced accepts credit cards, but, like many AC merchants, they charge more to cover the service fee charged by Visa or MasterCard.

Most of all, take either a waterproof camera with flash, or else get a small dry bag with a neck strap for your camera (Sweetjane loves ziplocks, but, do you want to trust your Nikon in one?)

Have fun!

I would recommend wearing tennis shoes(ones that you don't care if they get muddy & wet) or very sturdy sport type sandals(w/ a thick rubber sole). I wasn't really sure what to expect either, and it was great fun, but you get wet. Totally wet. Bring a dry shirt to change into when you are done.
Here is a brief synopsis of our trip so you get a better idea:
(incidently, we were w/ Caves Branch--so your trip may be a bit different? but you'll get the gist)
Sat on the back of a tractor, pulling 4 of us, and 2 guides thru blooming orange trees...
walk into an orange grove to the river, walked into the river, put the big tubes in the water, propel yourself into the mouth of a cave, turn your headlamps on, and the fun really float at times, then stand up, pick up your tube and walk further into the cave. Awesome stalagtite and stalagmite (sp?) formations. We climbed up and through a lot of the terrain inside the cave--this is where I was glad I had on good shoes! Slippery at times. We stopped and had a picnic lunch inside--cool and a bit surreal/spooky--right where you could see remains of ceremonies the mayans used to do--clay pots, stones and "offerings". Then walk and float some more...bats at the very end. Our guide told us about them right before so I was ready for them...some flew past, not too much of a big deal.
Sorry so long, but hopefully this will prepare you for the right gear and enjoy--one of my favorite memories of our trip!
