Hilton Worldwide today announced the signing of the new Resort at Mahogany Bay Village to Curio – A Collection by Hilton™. When open, The Resort at Mahogany Bay Village, Curio Collection by Hilton will be the first Hilton Worldwide property in Belize, as well as the first luxury resort from a global brand in the country.
The rustic-chic resort destination is located in San Pedro, Belize on Ambergris Caye, about 15 miles from the mainland and 10 minutes from the San Pedro Airport. With 205 cottage and villa-style rooms, the resort sits on a 60-acre property featuring private residences, bay and beach clubs, a spa, meeting space and “The Village,” a vibrant public space.
“The opportunity to develop The Resort at Mahogany Bay Village came at an opportune time and with a well-matched partner,” said Juan Corvinos, managing director, development, Central America, Andean and Hispanic Caribbean regions, Hilton Worldwide. “Paired with Mahogany Bay’s hospitality expertise, eco-friendly practices and focus on supporting the local community, our first Hilton Worldwide property in Belize will elevate accommodation offerings in the country and allow travelers to discover the true local flavor and spectacular natural beauty of Ambergris Caye and Belize.”
Guests of The Resort at Mahogany Bay Village will experience upscale accommodations and amenities grounded in the authentic spirit of the country. The Belizean-style villas will be made from local sustainably harvested hardwoods and feature lofty ceilings and artfully designed heirloom quality furniture. “The Village” will complement the downtown San Pedro area with a General Store, craft and farmer’s market, scuba and fishing operators, concierge and tour coordinator, hair/nail salon and much more. Guests will be able to try organic fresh vegetables harvested daily from Ambergreens, Belize’s first aquaponics farming venture, fantastic coffee at Rum and Bean, lunch at Taco Shack and local fare at the all-day restaurant, among many other food and beverage outlets.
The property will offer a 22,000 square foot Great House featuring three floors and 8,000 square feet of meeting and event space plus a wrap-around covered veranda. A specially-designated Bride’s Room will be designed as a dressing room for weddings, but will also double as a 12-seat private venue.
“The Resort at Mahogany Bay Village will be a borderless community that encourages travelers to get out and experience all that Belize has to offer,” said Beth Clifford, President, Mahogany Bay Management, Ltd. “Combining the authentic local spirit of the Curio collection and the one-of-a-kind character of Belize, the resort will provide a unique guest experience and serve as the perfect base camp for our guests’ Belizean adventures.”
The Resort at Mahogany Bay Village will allow easy access to nearby restaurants, watersports, wildlife attractions and entertainment. White sand beaches, rainforests, zip lines and river caves are easily accessible from the resort’s location, while Mayan ruins, coral reefs and world class fishing are just moments away from the property.
Over 200 local restaurants on the Caye provide a diverse food adventure from local street fare to fine dining at Victoria House to Belizean fare at Elvi’s Kitchen.
The resort will prioritize the preservation of natural resources by using local materials and minimizing overall waste. It will maintain construction and operating standards so it will not impact the local coral reefs, and it will also employ smart architectural designs to increase airflow and reduce the need for air conditioning.
“With its luxury accommodations, beautiful location, environmentally-sustainable design and integration with the local community, we can’t wait to welcome guests to The Resort at Mahogany Bay Village,” said Dianna Vaughan, senior vice president and global head, Curio – A Collection by Hilton and DoubleTree by Hilton. “By simultaneously reflecting the local culture and providing remarkable service, The Resort at Mahogany Bay Village will exemplify the Curio collection’s distinctive character.”
As part of the Hilton Worldwide portfolio, The Resort at Mahogany Bay Village, Curio Collection by Hilton will participate in Hilton HHonors®, the award-winning guest-loyalty program for Hilton Worldwide’s 13 distinct hotel brands. Hilton HHonors Members always get an exclusive member rate, along with HHonors Points, free standard Wi-Fi, digital check-in and no booking fees only when they book directly through Hilton.

Guests can explore the Belize Barrier Reef, the largest in the Western Hemisphere, or take part in watersports such as diving, snorkeling, fly fishing, paddle boarding and more. With more than 300 species of birds, the island is also a top destination for bird-watching.
Mahogany Bay Resort & Beach Club’s 205 charming cottages and villa-style rooms are nestled amongst groves of coconut palms and tropic foliage. Each of the buildings embrace the indigenous details of Caribbean living, offering breezy spaces with lofty ceilings and spacious porches. The sustainably-built resort also incorporates local materials into the structure of the cottages and furniture selection, including five different types of wood – Bullet Tree, Cabbage Bark, Caribbean Pine, Santa Maria and Mahogany. Accommodations range from garden cottage, garden cottage with loft, lower and upper keeping suites and family cottages.
“As Hilton’s debut property in the country, we ensured that we attended to every detail of the resort from the accommodations and amenities to team member training and guest service,” said Beth Clifford, founder and developer, Mahogany Bay Resort & Beach Club, Curio Collection by Hilton. “The exclusive resort will provide unique guest experiences and serve as the perfect base camp for our guests’ Belizean adventures, fostering a new level of sophistication for travelers visiting the country.”

Tourists have another resort option on the South of San Pedro. It's the Mahogany Bay Resort and Beach Club. Now this resort is a really big deal because the developers partnered with the renowned International hotel brand: Hilton. The resort is now officially opened and Courtney Weatherburne visited today to see what sets it apart. Here's her report from San Pedro:
Courtney Weatherburne reporting
If you are in the mood for a revitalizing morning massage, a soothing afternoon session at the yoga studio.
Or you just need a quick touch up on your highlight at the salon, you don't have to go far.
In fact it is just a short walk away from the rooms, at Mahogany Bay Resort and Beach Club in San Pedro. But these are just a few of the amenities available at the resort. There is a coffee shop, as well as stalls for upcoming stores, markets and Belizean styled restaurants. It is an elite resort package and it was officially opened for guests today.
Hon. Tracey Taegar-Panton, Min. of State, Trade "This is indeed a happy day, an exciting day as we mark a milestone achievement in the tourism industry with the official launch of the first CURIO branded property under the Hilton flagship, the Mahogany Bay Resort and Beach Club."
There are 106 active rooms, 54 garden cottages like this one. 12 family cottages with a pool that can accommodate 6 persons. And 20 upper and lower keeping rooms - all with a rustic touch.
Juan M. Arboleda, Director of Brand Performance, Full Service Hotels "Hilton's Curio collection is world portfolio of one of a kind hotels handpicked for their unique character and personality and this hotel joins over 40 other Curio collection hotels and resorts that have opened across the world, including 5 here in the Caribbean and Latin America region. Like this one, each special Curio property is an integral addition to the collection and the destination it calls home and Mahogany Bay with its wider ray of amenities, including the private white sand beach club, with a grand pool bar, poolside spa treatments, beautiful events space and the private white sand beach club is an ideal addition to our expanding collection."
But Mahogany Bay Resort and Beach Club is more than just another short stop on Belize's hotel list - on the local level, it will boost employment:
Daniel Guerrero, Mayor, San Pedro "With a growth rate of 17% per annum or an estimated 1500 residents per annum, there is never a shortage of people looking for employment on the island. And so every new opportunity for employment is always welcomed on the island."
Beth Clifford, CEO and Developer, Mahogany Bay Village "We helped people live better lives. The impact is people that were once laborers are now part of a middle class."
Of course, beyond employment, this one of a kind Hilton brand resort is set to attract a lot more tourists to the island - even more so now since the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition crew hopped in for a visit.
Beth Clifford, CEO and Developer, Mahogany Bay Village "Yes we just had Sports Illustrated Swimsuit here and they were here for, seem like 6 weeks. They were here for 6 days, but while they were here 1.1 billion impressions were made around the world of Belize first and the Mahogany Bay second."
And the Mahogany Bay team hopes that that notable visit can attract other huge names and brands. It is all in an effort to achieve one goal.
Beth Clifford, CEO and Developer, Mahogany Bay Village "Could we partnered with a country to build the next traveler destination in the world? That is a big hairy audacious goal."
Just so you get an idea on pricing, it is $444 US dollars nightly for an upper keeping room and $569 US dollars nightly for a family cottage. The prices vary based on the season. By next year they hope to have 206 rooms.

Mahogany Bay Village Opens As the Largest Resort in Belize & Hilton’s First in the Country Yesterday Mahogany Bay Resort & Beach Club, Curio Collection by Hilton officially opened! Late morning on a gorgeous day, there were a few speeches, the Belizean flag was raised and lunch and champagne were served.
The largest resort in Belize is OPEN.
It marked a project that has been in the works for quite a few years (check out the posts I’ve written below) – and is just one stage in many more that are planned. It is the largest resort on Ambergris Caye – with 106 rooms opening at 12.01am on December 6, 2017. There will be 300 in total. There are now 325,000 square feet of completed buildings. 310 employees. A monumental accomplishment on a large piece of reclaimed land that was completely empty – just dirt and sand -about 5 years ago.
I first properly visited the site less than 2 miles south of San Pedro town in June 2014. Since then there has been an EXPLOSION of activity. New businesses, new buildings, a massive Great House, furnishings, decor, plants…
