Fraternal greetings! And Season's greetings!
It is my duty to inform you that Bro Dale Trujeque has tendered his resignation as President of the Christian Workers Union. Due to family reasons, Bro Dale can no longer continue to serve as our President.
The CWU Executive Board met in emergency session last night and accepted Bro Dale's resignation, effective October 31, 2017. Until our Annual General Meeting mandated by March 2018, current Vice President Bro Basil Brannon will act as CWU President.
Clandestine Airstrip and burnt plane found
On Sunday, 31st December 2017 at 12:24 p.m. police and Belize Defence Force personnel visited an area off the Coastal Road, in the Belize District. Upon arrival they observed a twin engine King Air Beach Craft almost completely destroyed by fire. Near the aircraft were the visible signs of an illegal airstrip.
It is believed that this aircraft had been in this area for a few days and it was pulled from the airstrip and burnt. Checks were done in the nearby bushes and surrounded areas but nothing was found.

Man critical following stabbing in Corozal
A stabbing incident in the Corozal district has left a man in a critical condition.
According to police, sometime around 2:30 this morning, they responded to a report of a stabbing in Louisville village, where they saw Alejandro Yam in an unconscious state, suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Yam was taken to the Northern Regional Hospital in Orange Walk, where he is listed in a critical condition. Police are investigating the incident.
Murder victim identified
The man who was shot dead on Antelope Street Extension last night has been identified.
Police say he is Fredrick Smith, 22, of Belize City. Smith was discovered around 10:40 p.m., lying face up in a drain on Antelope Street Extension in the Collet area. He had been shot in the upper back.
No one has been charged in connection with the murder as investigations continue.
The murder happened a few hundred yards from where a manned police intelligence mobile has been stationed on Antelope Street for the past two months to deter bloodshed and drug trafficking.
First murder recorded for 2018
The year 2018 has seen its first murder, coming just hours after 2017’s last murder – that of Fredrick Smith on Antelope Street Extension.
The new year’s first victim is Leon Garcia, who was stabbed multiple times in the chest and abdomen sometime around 3:30 this morning on Barrack Road.
Police say that Garcia was walking along with Raheem Reed and others on Barrack Road from the direction of Newtown Barracks when two men attacked them from behind. One of the men reportedly began to stab Garcia, who collapsed on the street, while his friends ran back towards a police check point stationed on Barrack Road at its junction with Victoria Street.

2017’s Most Popular Posts & Some Small Things Learned Living in Belize for 10 Years
Happy Happy New Year everyone. I would regale you with stories of my epic night in San Pedro but…I was happily sleeping by 11.15pm.
Looking back on 2017, it seems almost like a blur. But then, in many way, so do the last 10 years.
I first visited Belize in August of 2006, moved here permanently in May of 2007, managed a bar for a few years and started my blog – just for fun – in June 2011…time really does fly.
During that time, the island has changed fast and furiously. You can only imagine what those who were born here think.
It is not particularly challenging and not at all satisfying to sit back and find fault with it all. It’s not the San Pedro of my first visit…things are busier, growing too fast. There is no master planning and if there is, there are too many loopholes, too much corruption and everything is WAY too political. The island has too much trash and too little focus on our environment.
Could Chocolate Actually Go Extinct In 40 Years?
How can you deal with horrible news if the horrible news is losing one of the best ways of dealing with horrible news?
An article from Erin Brodwin for the Business Insider blared the following headline, "Chocolate is on track to go extinct in 40 years." Apparently, the concern is that cacao plants, which are the natural source of chocolate (otherwise known as happiness), may go extinct by 2050.
In the words of singer-song writer Kate Miller-Heidke, are you bleeping kidding me? How can you drown your sorrows in chocolate without chocolate? Mayonnaise doesn't quite work the same. Is this for real or is this (snicker, snicker) a joke?
