I have friends arriving on the island today. Does anyone know what the road/trail conditions are to go all the way to Tranquility Bay and the Turtlemans House via golf cart. I've done it numerous times in years past, but haven't made that trek for the last couple of years.

Any suggestions on how to get them there. In the past, I know you could take the water taxi to the last stop, then TB would pick you up from there, and drop you back off there. I can't find a local phone number for them, only an 800 number that goes to voicemail.

Tranquility Bay 236-5880 or 670-5880 are local numbers for them. Golf carts can make the trip, they do everyday. It's a bumpy ride.

How long does it take? Next time I visit I would like to try it and do some shore fishing and snorkeling. Is it still taboo to take a rental cart there with the new road?

The road only takes you as far as south Habaneros area, just north of Sapphire Beach. Then it is a 4 miles drive on the beach to TBR. It's up to your rental company, because if you get stuck somebody has to rescue you and the vehicle. The water area north of Sueno del Mar is the Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve, no take. Anything. And the beaches are some of the last nesting ground for turtles May-Nov, so proceed with all due caution. Hence sometimes the taboo label. A proper road off beach would be welcome for these reasons.
