The traffic dept continues to try to get driver's and riders to drive responsible on the North Road. We have now created a speed control zone close to "Truck Stop ", This consist of several speed bumps in the area.

Please obey the speed limit and drive safely.

San Pedro Traffic Department installs speed bumps north of San Pedro Town

Residents north of San Pedro Town welcomed the initiative by The San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) and the San Pedro Traffic Department (SPTD) in establishing a speed-control zone with speed bumps on the northern paved road. The rubber speed bumps are expected to slow down traffic and minimize potential accidents on that side of the island. Mayor Daniel Guerrero stated that the SPTC saw the need to place the speed bumps on the road, which appears to have become a speedway for many drivers at night. "Traffic Wardens don't really work at night, so there is no one to monitor the speeding on that side of the island," said Guerrero. "We hope this alleviates the problem for now," Guerrero added that the SPTC is looking to hiring about six additional wardens so that there is enough personnel for a night shift.

According to Chris Nuez from the SPTD, two of the main reasons were complaints from residents who have reported speeding motorists at night and concern for safety. "The bumps will now slow down the speeding vehicles and in return, it will benefit that area of the island who feared for their safety due to nocturnal traffic," said Nuez. Nuez also confirmed to The Sun that during the past months there have been accidents on the northern road.

A very ineffective solution. Yes, it slows my golf cart down to a complete stop as it jolts over the speed bumps while the motorcycles speed past going in between the the bumps and the taxis and larger vehicles zoom past me once I get over the bumps so as not to have to wait behind me to cross the next speed bump.
Until their are consequences for speeding other than bouncing over randomly spaced speed bumps, it will continue to be a problem.

Solution is called "police enforcement" speeding tickets? When is the last time anyone sees that happening North of the bridge?
I would think that would also be an incentive to generate more $$ for the city

Hopefully these official speed bumps will also curtail the dangerous renegade speed bumps erected by business owners along North Road.

Speed bumps are about as effective as putting a Band-Aid on a part of your body that has cancer well that is in less you put them every 20 yards

On our last drive back to the US through Mexico there was one town that had topes [speed bumps] every felt like 30 feet about a mile through the town! And they were high could only do 5 MPH!
