Reina del Carnaval pageant crowns a new queen; Ana Najarro There was much fun and laughter at the annual Miss Carnival Pageant on Friday, February 9th at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium. Organized by Flora Ancona’s Comparsa Group, the fifth annual pageant raised funds for the group’s carnival activities, and opened the festivities for ‘El Gran Carnaval de San Pedro.’ The pageant saw the participation of five lovely ladies vying for the coveted title. The contestants, Angela Guerrero, Dulce Portillo, Ana Najarro, Delcia Garcia, and Elsa Wiltshire took to the stage for an intense competition, but at the end of the night, it was Ana Najarro who charmed the judges and took home the title of ‘Reina del Carnaval’ 2018-2019.
The show tipped off after 7PM with an opening dance by the five contestants. They introduced themselves as they danced in colorful costumes. Following the opening, the lovely ladies retreated backstage to prepare for the first segment of the pageant.
Carnaval 2018 Day Two - Cupid And Queen Of The Bay Parody Day two of Carnaval 2018 was alot of fun as there was lots more painting and dancing at Central Park. The comparsas had everyone laughing and dancing. Did you know President Trump was on the island? That's right even President Donald Trump made it at Carnaval 2018 as the students of Ambergris Caye Elementary School did a parody on the "wall of Donald Trump". Dona Flora's group had everyone feeling the love as they danced along with Cupid. The Barbies (men's group) took us back to September 2017 as they had the "Queen of the Bay Parody" making everyone laugh and have a great time as "Barbie Moya" took away the crown of the Queen of the Bay and gave it to whom she thought was the righful queen. Loads and loads of fun! Today is the last day of Carnaval do not miss out on this fun tradition of our isla bonita!

Things That Are Normal on Ambergris Caye only During Carnava Carnaval in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize is one of the MOST UNIQUE celebrations in the country. There are two main things that make it FUN – Walking around town covered in paint and watching members of our community dance through the streets and entertaining residents on their porches.
It’s a cultural celebration that is almost 90 years old. According to folklore, don Juan Carnaval commenced the celebration prior to lent. There was a big festival in San Pedro featuring music, dancing, food and bacchanalia. The festive spirit continued for three days of Carnival from Sunday to Tuesday and on Wednesday the period of lent with fasting and sacrifice commenced. The celebrations are based from these folkloric and cultural beginnings.
