Iguana Juan’s Restaurant and Bar has joined the San Pedro dining scene, bringing killer vegetarian, thoughtful burgers and live entertainment to Back Street.

The restaurant’s first professional stand up comedy show starring headliner Rob Sherwood takes place Wednesday, February 21 at 8:00 p.m. Sherwood is the opening act for mega prop comic Carrot Top in has Las Vegas showroom at The Luxor, and he has headlined comedy club across the US and abroad. Tickets can be purchased online via Iguana Juan’s Facebook page or at the restaurant during opening hours.

Other unique events coming soon include Saturday morning reggae brunches with local musicians and interactive tamale making classes.

Brad and Shannon Reeder bring years of comedy club and restaurant experience to Iguana Juan’s. Brad is a professional comedian who has opened for Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld, and he has been seen on TV’s Comedy Central, Evening at the Improv and Last Comic Standing. The Reeder’s owned one of the top 10 comedy clubs in the US as ranked by USA Today, along with two restaurants, in their hometown of Raleigh, NC. After selling their business in the US in 2013, they began to explore Belize, first living in Hopkins, before making the move to San Pedro in 2015.

Iguana Juan’s menu blends American and Central American favorites, with an emphasis on fresh and house made ingredients. Specialties include burgers, tamales, ceviche, creative salads, sandwiches, vegetarian dishes and more. Opening hours are 11 a.m.- 10 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Curiosity Almost Killed the Cat Before Iguana Juan’s Comedy Night
I was offered to come experience the food and eclectic vibe at Iguana Juan’s Restaurant and Bar. It was their first professional stand up comedy show with Rob Sherwood. I was not familiar with him so I decided to let it be almost a complete surprise as to what he is like. I say almost as I went old school and messaged two friends to see what they thought of him. I got different reviews, and one knew him right away the other had to Google. The show was starting at 8:00 pm with a cattle call of 7:30. Since I wanted to try the food there first my friends Cindy, Deb, and I decided to go for 7:00. When we got there the place was pretty full. We got the last indoor table. The comedy crew of Iguana Juan’s co-owner, Brad Reeder, Crazy Canucks co-owner Rob Burrows, Gains Kelly, and headliner Rob Sherwood came together to make us laugh. They cracked jokes about everything from tourists to no necks and sex. The odd time there were crickets but that made it funnier when the comedian on stage came back with a zinger to crack up the crowd.

Ambergris Caye has a lot to offer in terms of dining and entertainment, and new businesses certainly have much to live up to. With their witty slogan, eclectic vibe and great menu, Iguana Juan’s made their debut in style. Oh yes, let’s not forget their cool factor: Comedy Night! Owners Brad and Shannon Reeder had one of the top comedy clubs in the U.S., along with two restaurants in their hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina, and so their move to Belize clearly would be a combo of the two.

Iguana Juan’s is the very definition of: “Conveniently located upstairs of an old building, on a back street, on an island, in Central America”. Its open air setting on the second floor of the ‘old building’ makes for a very pleasant dining and drinking experience. Delicious burgers, vegetarian options and fabulous fresh salads made fresh in-house can sate even the pickiest of appetites. Join them for some food and drinks, laughs and a great island experience.
