UDP 7 celebrates pre-election rally in San Pedro Town
A day after the People’s United Party (PUP) Town Council Slate held their pre-election rally at the Honorable Louis Sylvestre Sporting Complex, the incumbent United Democratic Party (UDP) held theirs on Saturday, March 3rd. Held at the same venue, the UDP came out in full force alongside Area Representative and Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Honourable Manuel Heredia Jr., and a large crowd of supporters who cheered and applauded the seven UDP candidates aspiring for a third term in office at the upcoming March 7th Municipal Elections.
UDP supporters in the hundreds gathered at the sporting complex where shortly after 9PM the event officially started. Several residents representing the various subdivisions in town took to the microphone and pointed out some of their problems in their areas. They indicated that all those issues were satisfactorily addressed by the UDP, greatly improving their lives.
Wolfe’s Woofer: Retirement Gift
After twenty-five years of service as a church pastor, I retired last week,” the tourist told me. “The church board gave me a two-week vacation here in Belize as part of the retirement package.”
“That’s a good retirement gift,” I said.
Reverend Hugh McCready was seated at a table near mine on the deck of the Holiday Hotel, where we enjoyed conversation over our coffee.
“I’m really close to the guys on the Board,” he said. “One of them—Bishop Hanlon, is a terrible practical joker and he promised to provide me with a little something extra. I shudder to think what he meant by that.”
Marco Gonzalez Archeological Reserve hosts Spring Equinox event
The Marco Gonzalez Maya Site Non-Profit Organization happily invites the public to celebrate All Things New at their Spring Equinox Event on Sunday, March 18th at the Marco Gonzalez Archaeological Reserve. At 10am Maya Priest Mr. Martin Choc will officiate a blessing of the Reserve as well as extending it to our island. If anyone has a birthday, anniversary or “just married”, they can request a special blessing from the Priest. Following the Official blessing, the festivities begin in celebration of Spring.
Spring equinox is another name for “vernal equinox” or “March equinox”. An equinox is the moment in time (not a day-long event) when the Sun stands directly above the equator and day and night are of approximately equal length. For the Northern Hemisphere, the spring equinox is the moment when winter ends and spring begins
Doctor Love: Uncertain
Dear Doctor Love,
I started dating my girl after she caught her boyfriend cheating on her. The break-up was bad and she was really hurt so I make sure to be very good to her. The first three months were fun and she always told me how happy she was that I am not like him at all.
A few weeks ago he texted her that he broke up with his girlfriend and he wanted to apologize for the way he treated her. They talked a few times and now everything with my girl and I has changed. She is short tempered and doesn’t want to spend as much time together. She used to be angry about him but now she makes excuses for him and defends him. She has forgotten all the times he cheated on her and how mean he was to her when they broke up and she often mentions things that they used to do together. She says she only wants to be his friend but it seems the more time they spend together, the less she likes me.

Bogus British doctor who preys on desperate cancer patients at tropical retreat is 'loved-up' with dead patient's husband
A callous cancer quack who gives victims false hope with bogus treatments is boasting of finding love with a patient’s widower.
Amanda Mary Jewell has no formal medical training and injects desperate visitors to her £145-a-day Caribbean clinic with dangerous and banned products.
She began a romance with Martin Buckwell less than a year after using her treatments on his tragic wife Aliki.
Jewell, 49, left the UK after Trading Standards said it had “serious concerns” she was misleading vulnerable people.
She now leads a cancer unit with a private beach in Belize (it's in the Progresso, Corozol area), offering stem cell and protein treatments, bleach “cure” MMS and even tooth-pulling to let poisons “pour out”.
She tonight claimed her treatments are “mainly herbal” despite endorsing hormone and chemical treatments on a blog.
Demon Ants from Hell
The Belizean leafcutters I encountered had blazed pathways the width of a bicycle tire track from their colony to nearby trees. These trails are like ant highways. Interstate 95, you ain’t seen nothing! If you get down on your hands and knees for a close inspection, you can see the little demons racing in both directions, many of them bearing bits of leaf 20 or 30 times their size. I don’t think they even pay taxes.
Such ant colonies are found all over in Belize. In addition to being far more ilndustrious than our fat, lazy American ants – they surely would surely perform work in the United States that our ants wouldn’t want to do — Belizean ants are furious warriors. Try swiping a stick across the placid top of an ant colony, and see what happens. Instantaneously, a swarm of hundreds of ants will boil out of the ground to defend the homeland.
Still Searching for Howler Monkeys
We’re having a fine time at the Blancaneaux Lodge here in Belize. Got in some great hiking yesterday, and took a canoe trip this morning into a cave where the ancient Mayans once performed human sacrifices. Have learned many things, both mundane and astonishing. If I have time, I will report back on the industriousness of the local ants, the remarkable properties of the vines hanging from limestone cliffs, the old-order Mennonite settlers, and the political economy of Belize.
