Tiger Sharks overcome 2017 NEBL Champs
Another victory was added to the San Pedro Tiger Sharks scorecard on Saturday, March 3rd after they defeated the current National Elite Basketball League (NEBL) 2017 champions, the Belmopan Bandits. The game was held at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium in San Pedro Town where the 2017 champions and sub-champions clashed in a game that almost resulted in a loss for the Tiger Sharks. But the hard work by the island team paid off and at the end of the four quarters, the Tiger Sharks emerged victorious 95-91. The auditorium was packed with basketball fanatics when the match tipped off at 9PM. In the first quarter, the home squad managed to garner a four-point lead. By the end of the first half of the game, both teams retreated to the lockers with a tight score of 47-43 in favor of the Tiger Sharks. In the second half of the match, the Bandits kept pressuring and upping their game. For a few minutes they were up in the lead, but just before the third quarter was over back to back scores made by island team players Andrew Ortiz and Jihad Wright brought up the score to 72-65. The Tiger Sharks were ahead again with a close score.

George Price Highway rehabilitation
The project George Price Highway Rehabilitation aims to improve the road connectivity within Belize’s main districts and with Central America by rehabilitating the George Price Highway road infrastructure between miles 47.9 in Belmopan and 67.3 in Santa Elena to national standards, decreasing travel time and costs, reducing road fatalities and injuries, and ensuring road accessibility by improving the corridor’s climate change resilience. The George Price Highway is a two lane highway that begins in Belize City on the Caribbean Sea and proceeds west across Belize over mostly flat terrain until reaching the Guatemalan Border past Benque Viejo del Carmen. The section to be rehabilitated spans from the junction with the Hummingbird Highway on the western edge of the national capital of Belmopan to the Loma Luz roundabout at the entrance to the twin towns of Santa Elena and San Ignacio.

BELIZE FISHING REPORT: Weeks of Feb. 26th - Mar. 4th, 2018
Great week for bonefishing as all anglers were successful. The winds remained moderate to strong during the beginning of the week but quieted down toward the end. The temperature of the water is on the rise, so some of the larger bones have moved into deeper water, but a few larger fish are still around. Lots of fish were eating well as the weather settles.

Gud Maanin Belize
Belize is a happy country and its normal to greet each other with a “Hello”,” Good morning “, a “Hi how are you” or a “What’s happening”. We are the only country in Central America where English is the official language. But depending on where you are in the country and who you are talking to, you will discover quite a diversity of language in the manner of greeting strongly related to the melting pot of cultures that are our people. In areas where the Mestizo culture is strong particularly in northern Belize and the Cayo district, the favored language is Spanish and familiar greetings are “Buenas Dias”,”Hola” and “Que Pasa?” Northern Belize still has several Maya villages, where Yucatec Maya is still spoken, though sadly the language is dying out. “How are you” is “Bix yanikech”, Good morning is “Ma’lob Ja’atskab K’iin”

Farmers Market Wows Food Lovers in Belize
Many visitors to Belize come to the country unsure about what to expect when it comes to the local food. Belize, however, is famous for its fresh-caught seafood and organic produce, and one of the best places to learn more about food in Belize is at one of the country's open-air markets. At the open-air markets in towns like San Pedro and San Ignacio, a combination of permanent shops and roadside stalls sell a dazzling array of local goods, including items you might not expect such as artisanal cheese made domestically in Belize. Ian Anderson, the founder of the Caves Branch Lodge in central Belize, brought in a number of award-winning cheesemakers in order to develop a line of world-class cheese products, including smoked and aged varieties.

12 Awesome Reasons To Spend Your Winter In Belize!
Some people love winter, some of us think winter downright stinks. It gets cold, in some places, there’s snow – blizzards, slick roads, and all that iciness. You gotta layer up to the point that you look like some sort of nylon turkey, and even so your fingers and toes can hardly stay warm. Spending winter in Belize is no cake walk either, it’s quite the challenge!

If it tastes great you have no time to stop and get philosophical about it. We’re here to take that load off you; check out our list of Mayan Food you absolutely must try!

Appeal of Belize decriminalization ‘effectively over’
An attempt to reinstate Belize’s anti-sodomy law is “effectively over,” says LGBT rights activist Maurice Tomlinson. He congratulated Belize activist Caleb Orozco, lawyer Lisa Shoman and their team for the achievement. “This is victory shared by all the Caribbean!” Tomlinson said. Tomlinson was responding to the fact that the Catholic Church in Belize last week pulled out of the appeal of the 2016 decision by the Belize Supreme Court to overturn the country’s prohibition against consensual anal sex (Section 53 of the Criminal Code). Orozco was optimistic, but more guarded about the move. He is executive director of the United Belize Advocacy Movement (UNIBAM), which works for LGBT rights and health.
