From Belmopan...

Well that was a storm last night. It was caused by the Pacific high-level winds over Mexico, inter reacting with other activity in north America to produce a large winter storm over the US eastern coast line, causing serios problems to New York, Boston and other areas. But its long southern arm, which started along the Texas coast, sweep down over the Gulf and the Yucatan yesterday, reaching Corozal yesterday evening, beaching down to central Belize and Belmopan just moments after midnight, with high winds and storm rain. I measured 43mm nearly 2" of rain, but by this morning my whole garden was dry, due to good drainage and the rain finishing hours ago. There is still a little rain, but that is now out at sea. Although that storm band moved down from the north, its wind was from the SW, it was stripping off the tops of clouds yesterday, causing rain in Guatamala, that did not get into Belize. Now there is a blanket of cloud over most of Belize, its lower part moving from the east, but its tops moving from the SW.

Looks like today will start cloudy, overcast, but brighten up later, there could still be some rain showers.

Temperatures in Belmopan :
( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler ) Last night min. 20°C 69°F Yesterday max. 32°C 91°F

The Cloud picture. This is a more complex picture than it looks, with Caribbean air and cloud trying to come in from the east, other clouds still moving down from the north, with the main high-level coming over from the west. There is also another high-level cloud movement from the ITCZ activity in the Pacific near Panama, that has pushed up from the SW over Honduras.

Still very confused weather. The Caribbean wind and cloud trying to push in from the east whilst higher mid-level clouds coming down from the north, and high-level winds from the SW, but the surface wind over Belmopan is also from the SW. There have been a few sprinkles of rain, and a fair bit of sunshine now.
